Default We do wear shoes lmao.............

I have lived in Central Arkansas my whole life and I have always liked living here. Yes as with any other state Arkansas does have it's issues.

Just for the record:

Not every person you meet in your life is going to be nice and that is ANYWHERE you go!

It's a part of life that you just have to ignore and if you can't ignore it then I guess you need to move. Good luck finding a place that has NO RUDE people in it though, I sure haven't found that location yet!

I also get so tired of hearing stereo types about people from Arkansas. Like we sleep with our brothers, we don't wear shoes or all the women are barefoot and pregnant. That is SO far off base it isn't even funny!

I have met plenty of people from other states and I have always tried to be nice to them, just like if I was living in another state I would want the people there to treat me nice. You know that old saying "Do unto others..." Well it's like that anywhere, treat people as you want to be treated and if you run up on some rude person just leave them be!

Working in a cosmetic department I had to order perfumes from a man located in New York. One day while giving him my phone order he blurts out "I am in a hurry can you people down there not talk any faster or is everyone in the south slow?!?" I said "Why sure I can talk faster darlin'! I am not ordering anything else from you ever again hun, was that fast enough for ya?" And I hung up the phone lol! Never met the man and I was always nice and professional with him, so why insult me by saying something about southern people being slow? It was uncalled for and very unprofessional of him, in my opinion.

Yes life here is a slower pace, but I like it!

When I was a teenager I worked at a drug store/soda fountain and had two guys from New York come in (this was in 1991)....you know what response I got from them?

They peered over the counter to see if I was wearing SHOES! How rude and stupid can you be, and some people call us BACKWOODS, uneducated and rude...ummm okay if you say so lol!

After they sat back down one of them said "Im shocked you have shoes on, I always heard people from Arkansas couldn't afford shoes."

I thought to myself....Did he really just say that to me with a straight face? Jeez sometimes you have to laugh off stuff just to keep from saying something rude.

So either you like Arkansas and the people in it or you don't it's pretty plain and simple but make no mistake about it....you can have a rude, BACKWOODS, uneducated idiots in any state! I promise you!

love the part about peering over the counter. I am sure it wasn't very funny then, but it seems funny to me now... Love you attitude, yes, people can be rude no matter where you life, every state has crime and poverty. Every state has lazy people and those who are not educated. By educated, I don't mean college degrees I mean ignorant. We have found living in NWA the people are just like everyone else only a little friendlier.

Good responses!

I have actually sat in a restaurant and heard discussions at tables about how much they like living in Arkansas except for the hillbillys and rednecks.

More than once after a waitress has walked away, I've heard, "I wish these people would learn how to talk".

Yeah.....they're everywhere, but I certainly try to avoid them. It's tourist season, and that means limited travel to avoid the less than favorable encounters.

I do, however, find most of these encounters amusing. It irritated me at first, but not for long. One just has got to consider the infinitely small world that these folks wrap themselves in and scorn everything they're afraid of.

Thank goodness it's the minority that has that attitude. For every one that comes here with that attitude, there's ten that come loving it. Those ten don't stick out because they acclimate.

It's like having an itch on that one spot on your back you can't reach....and it just refuses to go away.

Again, I say, as I have before, for a lot of folks, moving to Arkansas is like buying a boat when you can't stand being on the water.

Posting *barefoot* on the deck from a laptop.....I think I need another *worshin'* machine out here!

Unhappy Wow! You don't like it here!

If you have children don't move here, the most popular else where will be outcast forever here. I grew tired of the Arkansas hillbilly remarks while in the city, but their are truly hillbillies in this area, unless you are a descendant of the Pen costal church (assembly of God), or (non demo national), they call themselves believers but hate blacks and Hispanics , and you appreciate being talked down too as a woman, live no further than 45 minutes from Little Rock, or inside Ft Smith, inside Rogers, Fayetteville. The entire community smells. No southern hospitality or love between Conway and Alma, backwards never intend on changing sad people I don’t want to change, just want to leave and never look back. If you intend on relocating, do not buy a home..rent for a year first. You will leave!

One thing I need to mention is that you say you're educated and cannot find decent jobs because they are not posted. Actually, most jobs ARE NOT posted and that especially goes for good paying jobs with high status. Also, I've read your posts and if you are educated then you might have been drinking or are just being extremely careless with your grammar and spelling...if you filled out an application or created a resume/coverletter with the same style and standards, then I'm not surprised you didn't get it. I'm personally offended by your remarks, but I hope things will get better for you...

I have lived in AR my entire life until last August. I moved to go to grad school, but now that I'm gone I'm looking forward to moving back home.

Bottom line on the state is this... if you live there and want something to do, live in Central or NW AR. Not much elsewhere to keep you occupied.

It's hot and the weather sucks, but overall there is a high quality of life. Nice family values, lower cost of living, but salaries in general suck. That is why I moved, and hope to move back after graduation.

People are not nicer in AR than other places. I was surprised when I moved at how nice people are in IA and the rest of the Midwest. Even when I visitied LA, Chicago, and NYC, I was amazed at much better I was treated then when I'm in AR. Don't know why this is, but this was the biggest shocker. Little things like opening doors, saying excuse me, and children addressing adults as "Mr or Mrs" are more prominent in the South, but overall people treat others better in other places.

I never witnessed a lot of racism in AR, but it seems like the rest of the US has visions of Arkansans doing nothing but burning crosses and lynching people, which is not true. Maybe there is racism in smaller communities, but I rarely witnessed anything like this in the larger communities. I really think that instead of there being race issues per se, there are class issues. It's more rich vs poor than black vs white.

There is one thing I want to set straight, though. IF YOU LIVE IN ARKANSAS AND HAVE NOTHING BETTER TO DO THAN GET ON FORUMS LIKE THIS AND BASH ARKANSAS, THEN PLEASE LEAVE...NOW. WE DO NOT WANT YOU IN OUR STATE.

I'm a not going to pick on any state in particular but way back in the early 80's I took my oldest son for a college interview at one those very special Ivy League colleges when we lived in MO. Now to make it brief those folks didn't need another nuclear engineer, but they had a sore need of speech therapists. While traveling through AR on numerous trips I've seen no lack of shoes and I can decipher any thing said. Only gripe I had was when they called this FL boy a Yankee. Guess my next trip either up from FL or down form MO we can discuss my southern heritage over some AR BBQ with slaw. I do have a little confession. I much prefer to be barefoot as long as I'm not in a FL sandspur or cactus patch. Admittedly I'll wear them in a tin boat on those cold AR & MO rivers and lakes. Just don't close the door until I get their. Now after thinking about the best place, somewhere north of LA and south of MO. My pick is somewhere between Harrison and Mountain Home. Yes I like to fish.

I live in NW Ar (springdale)- i like that this is a good place to raise a family, and that it is pretty scenery. All in all it is not the worst place to live, but not the best either. The weather here is pretty much summer/winter. The mosquitos & flies are horrible and beware if you have allergies. My major complaint is that there just isn't much to do here!! Me and my family are considering moving to Brandon, Fl when i get out of nursing school!! Also not everyone here are hicks, we all wear shoes, and we are no more rude that anywhere else. The cost of living here is low, but job wages suck. I have lived here my whole life and i don't hate it, i am just wanting to relocate to a bigger city.

I live near Brandon and there will be plenty to do. We shop there every so often. Forget about the peace and quiet that you'll leave behind in AR. And the winter. 364 days of summer and 1 of a combined spring/fall. In Brandon you'll have the beaches near by and some good saltwater fishing too. Plenty of food joints to choose from too. You just have to go where your heart is. I'm counting down to be your replacement in the Ozarks. Not that I've got it bad here most of the time, I just love the Ozarks and a more rural life that is fastly fading here in FL. To me Brandon is just a little to much concrete and pavement. I need a gravel road to travel on once in a while now. Best wishes for you in your journey.

Mosquitos in Springdale are horrible and you're thinking of moving to FL?!?!

I totally do not agree with the summer/winter thing either. That's just plain inaccurate at least by my definition of spring and fall.
