I try and not wear shoes as much as possible, especially when at the beach
Best places to live in Arkansas? IMHO..anywhere in the hills! Ozarks especially

Amen
I just got back from roaming the earth.
Well......most folks call it a "vacation", but I'm on vacation here every day, so when I leave from vacation........I dunno.
Anyway, once I hit pavement up by Myron, I didn't get off pavement for over a week and about 1200 miles.
Once I ascertained that, yes, they still have streetlights "out there", and that parking meters were not really a bad dream as I had rationalized, and that it really is possible to hear a subwoofer in a car over a block away, I fled back home.
Once getting to the end of the Myron blacktop on return, I probably looked pretty silly out there on my hands and knees kissing that red dirt road.
But hey, you know me, I didn't give a hoot.
I refused to wash that red dirt off my face til the wife refused to kiss me.
Some things do have priority.
And yes......I am posting barefoot.
Glad to be back in 'the world'.

and you can be assured I am barefoot as well. The only reason I wear shoes when I go out in the front is our porch and walkway are made of rocks.

Rog, I'll bet you felt even sillier for having vacated your vacation in the first place.

Couldn't help it.
Relatives flying in from the nether regions of the country.
I have extended invitations to come here, but they're like, "Rog....people go down there and they never come back. It's like the edge of the world or something".
<quizzical Rogmar look>
"I mean...just look at you".
OK......OK....point made.

Arkansas is growing. Actually, Hewlet Packard is moving to Conway with about 600 jobs. That ought to push the economy up. Thats a lot of jobs for a town.

Arkansas People Nice
I live in Arkansas and I find them very charming. I find the transplants the rude ones. They come from different states and want Arkansas to be just like California or a particular northern state they just came from. Well that can't be, Arkansas is different, and has its own beauty and quaintness. Don't try to change Arkansas, just enjoy & you will do ok.

Lake front property?
I was born in Memphis, raised in Little Rock and Southern California, I've lived in Northwest Arkansas, Atlanta, Georgia, Davenport, Iowa, and now I'm residing in Texarkana. So I've been around and I've lived a lot of places and I feel I have some credibility when it comes to locations around the US. Yes, Arkansas is a poor state. However, it is a very beautiful state. We have lots of lakes and rivers and dirt cheap homes that overlook them. There are a few places I would recommend. Hot Springs is definitely a place to start looking. That would be Lake Hamilton. Its probably the most crowded lake in the state, as Hot Springs is a tourist town and home to Oaklawn Park (horse racing) - but I would guess that it has the best re-sell value. Greers Ferry Lake would be #2. Its close to a town called Heber Springs. The third place would be Beaver Lake in Northwest Arkansas. You will get mountains there too. As far as rivers go - I love the Buffalo River - it is the prettiest river in the state in my opinion. There is also the Red River - close to Heber Springs also - and great for fly fishing. The bottom line if you just want picturesque real estate - Arkansas is a great buy. If you want an active lifestyle with great restaurants and transplants that accept you and welcome you into their lives - probably not going to happen unless you join their church. Northwest ARkansas is probably the most transplant friendly due to the large number of transplants with Wal-Mart, Tyson Foods and Wal-mart vendors.
