Musicfest in El Dorado this weekend
I would be remiss if I didn't mention that Musicfest is going on this Friday night thru Saturday night in El Dorado. Headliners are country music legend John Anderson on Saturday night, and Blues guitarist Kenny Wayne Shepherd on Friday night. Also starring southern country/rock artist Shooter Jennings (son of Waylon Jennings and Jessi Coulter) on Saturday night, and country/rock group Reckless Kelly on Friday night. There will be a little bit of something for everybody at Musicfest this year: Country, Rock, Southern Rock, R&B, Blues, HipHop, Rap, Reggae, and Christian Rock.
MUSICFEST 2008
There will also be a "Southern Soul Showdown" at the Union County Fairgrounds this weekend. My apologies, I am not familiar with the acts that will be performing there. |

It is great fun. The downtown square is rockin' during Musicfest. I have been lucky enough to visit my dad in Eldo on a couple of the weekends during this event and have enjoyed it tremendously. I would highly recommend it.

He's a must-see.
I saw him when he was *16*, open for Charlie Musselwhite at Kingston Mines in Chicago.
He was absolutely unbelievable, and that's not a exaggeration.
It took half a set to get keyed back into Musselwhite after Shepherd's set. |

I have an update on the Southern Soul Showdown. The artists that will be featured are as follows:
T.K. Soul
Sir Charles Jones
Vick Allen
Since I am not familiar with the southern soul music scene, I've included links for each artist. The event is being held at the Union County Fairgrounds Saturday night. Gates open at 6 pm. Music begins at 8 pm. |

Dang! I forgot about The Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band playing tonight! We saw them play in Little Rock a few years ago,and it was incredible. Kenny is an AWESOME guitarist,and Noah Hunt is an outstanding vocalist as well. The whole band is good!
My wife and I had the privilege of meeting Kenny at the Hot Rod Magazine Power Tour back in June. I have never met a nicer and more down to Earth person in my life! 
I hate that we forgot about the show.  |

I caught KWS and his band Friday night. Unbelievable is the only word that comes to mind to describe what he does on a guitar! The show was awesome.
Something I found out this weekend. KWS is married to Mel Gibson's only daughter. But alas, I did not see Mad Max in attendance at Musicfest.
