I ask, "Where y'all from?".
He says....uh-huh..."Texas".
Too much.
I asked him, "Man, did you shut off the lights when you left the state? Cause I don't think there's any Texans left there".
Nice guy. We talked. Probly gonna lobby to change the state's name to "Arkatexas".

Arkatexas is good fodder for a new thread.

It's from another thread about the large number of Texans moving in.
NWA has it's Cali's with their double-decaff-super-latte's......
and I'm hearing the distant crys of, "Git along little doggies".
First flag I see cruisin' down the dirt is a Texas flag.
I'm gonna count them on the way to town....along with the "Don't mess with texas" bumper stickers.

Funny thread ... As a native Arkansan that has lived in Texas for last 15 years due to personnel choice for employment, I see it both ways. 80% of my high school class moved from my home town of Hot Springs to find employment, most out of state. Working in the service industry prior to leaving Hot Springs (family business), I was constantly shocked at the number of out of state residents from all over ... living in my little town. And growing up, there was always that ... "look out, its a Texas license plate or ... it's a out of stater /wink"; to anyone that would listen. Lastly is that sad chance that small town law enforcement would show ... let us say ... special attention as well. But I've found myself on the other side ... living in Texas, making a living doing what I love and always wanted to do ... but I haven't forgot where I came from in that lovely little valley of the vapors. So maybe it's not a Texan you see ... with that Texas plate ... passing you by on the road. Maybe it's me or someone like me ... coming home for a recharge.

I know what you mean. My location says Detroit Downriver, but my heart is in the hill country of Arkansas. I can't much narrow it down any more than that. I was born in Marianna, grew up in Forest City, Stuttgart, Jacksonville, Little Rock, Bryant/Bauxite and West Helena. Studied in Conway and Fayettville. Played all along the Buffalo National River. Had kids in West Helena and Ozark. Saw grandkids born in Van Buren and Alma. And, that's just Arkansas.
In Texas, my favorite old haunts were Tyler, Waxahachie and Emory (Lake Fork).
So, the tags don't tell the whole story by a long shot.
