If it makes me a racist to want to live in a majority white community than oh' well, I guess I'm a racist.

Hey ya'll let's set up strawman arguments then have a hoedown!

Edit: I'm not saying you're racist if you want to live in white-majority place. Definitely not.

strawman: a weak or sham argument set up to be easily refuted

That said, I should have stayed out of this discussion altogether because I probably came off pretty abrasive. But I stand by the original ideas of my posts.

I did not choose where I live. I inherited my land from my grandfather and yes where I live which is about an hour away from Harrison in Mountain Home, there are very little others races besides "whites'. Years back there were many problems in the northern part of the state. I have watched times change and even though they changed slowly they did change. The only problem in this area is it is more prominent to one race, but no one is turned away or looked down upon like in years past.

Yes! Every black person I ever met from Harrison was a racist. Is that what you wanted to hear?

We all live our lives based on our experiences...yours appear to be different than mine. That doesn't mean I treat anyone differently, I just prefer what I prefer. Because I want to live in Harrison, I'm devoid of cultural/educational/ideas? Boy, talk about close minded...and lafitte, if you met me, you would have no idea what my views are, and we'd probably get along...but don't worry, unless you go to Harrison you probably won't need to worry about me "staying away from you" because we'll probably never meet.
My family and I are planning to relocate to the Harrison area too. We took a driving trip through Arkansas last winter and it looked great. I've lived in "diverse" areas my entire life, and I'm ready for a change. I have never lived someplace all white before, and I'm looking forward to it.

We'll bring our appreciation of our Scots-Irish heritage, our kids, and our college degrees (not that the last will necessarily make a difference). If being white and selecting to be with our own kind means we don't have "culture," so be it. I've been in the Bay Area for almost 20 years and I've had enough "culture" to last a lifetime. Rather than try to export "culture" to Harrison, I think we'll just leave it behind.

We won't pee off our porch, but I am planning to plant a toilet full of flowers in our yard. Oh yes I am! We should be moving within the year. See you there, kinsfolk.

I don't blame you a bit, We moved from the Los Angeles area and a white town is the best. you may be surprised how low crime rates are in a white area compared to a place like California. it is so nice to be able too go out for a walk and feel safe at a park or walking on the streets.
I don't believe we are any more racist than the people we are trying to separate are selves from.

I find that it's a taboo subject to discuss, which is a sad reflection of our society. In my search for a new home, demographics is a major criteria. My experiences living in diverse areas are not positive. However if you express your intention to move to an area that is overwhelming white, then you are regarded as a racist. A relative of mine recently moved to a 'white' town (not Harrison) and was ostracized by some of his black co-workers because of his decision.

Maybe that was your experience. I have lived in a diverse area. I didn't have any major problems. Then again, I had good teachers and the adults were there to make sure that everyone was respected. It was almost like having an extended family. I had major cultural adjustment problems when I moved to a homogenous area and I was the person who stood out. I don't know what you had to go through, so I don't know your situation. Perhaps the problem was more socioeconomic than ethnic.

I lived in poor white areas also and even though crime occurred, it was not as serious as in diverse communities, and the racial 'tension' did not exist there. I can live with a bit of crime as it happens everywhere, but it is not worth it for me anymore to live in a diverse area due to the problems associated with it. My only realistic choice then is to live in a predominantly white area, which goes against the grain of my philosophical ideas of life.

You are right about the influence of teachers and adults in resolving these issues, so we must presume that the absence of these mentors is the primary reason why crime and disorder is prevalent in more diverse communities.

I big part of it, yes. Where I lived if you did something really stupid or bad, your parents would know a few hours(or a day later). For instance, I got into a fight with another kid at the bus stop in my apartment complex one afternoon. One of the people who directed the "kid's club" found out and told my mother. My mother did realize it was self-defense, but still, it can keep one out of major trouble. Kids had a place to go after school and they weren't always out at all hours of the afternoon committing who knows what. I believe if kids didn't have somewhere to go during the afternoon, juvenile crime would have been out of control. I never knew a person who went to jail or juvenile hall when I lived there. When I moved away to another county, I was finding out about children who were going to juvenile hall, and getting into other types of trouble.

Your experience with a diverse area, well, I don't know what I can say. All I can say is that we had different experiences. I lived in a diverse area that did have its problems, but then I moved to a predominantly white area and had more problems later on. I am just the type of person who isn't convinced that areas of a certain demographic are necessarily better than those of another area. I just had a different experience. I just look for areas where I won't be given problems.
