Tell me more about Texarkana's magnet elementary schools.
We have Texarkana on our possible list of cities. I looked up the school district's website and saw that there are several magnet elementary schools with different "specialties" like science, computer systems, etc. It's intriguing, because we would love to be able to send our 7-year-old to a magnet school, and I think it's neat that they get to choose what they're most interested in. But how does the system work exactly? Is it somehow determined by testing which field of interest they should be in, or do the children/parents choose? I can't really wrap my brain around how a very young child would go about choosing which area of interest he wants to learn about for his entire elementary school experience.
Anything else you could tell me about Texarkana (crime, friendliness of people there, shopping, etc.) would be great.
