It seems like they have a happy family. The children are making good choices and thriving. That's all a parent wants for their children. They live a sheltered life but ignorance is bliss.
My main concern has always been for the health of the mom Michelle. I can't imagine the toll of having children back to back has taken on her body. I pray that God gives her a long and healthy life. She has a lot of children that need her and want her to be around for awhile.

Moderator cut: off topic This is America. The Duggars can pop out as many children as they want. Do I think they're being irresponsible. Yes. Their children should not have to take care of the children that they keep producing. As much as the pretend to enjoy it, they don't know any better. They haven't had experience doing anything else. Extremely strict conservative families irk me to no end. The information and life experiences they withhold from their children is not responsible. When, not if, their children leave the house they will be faced with the real world, not some fantasyland where everyone is old-fashioned and naive. Those children will face such a culture shock, they won't know what to do. However, in this day and age, we know all 18 of their children won't grow up to be like their parents. If statistics serve us right, at least one of the children is homosexual, and who knows what other kind of problems they will have.

The woman has some mental issues IMO. She has said several times in interviews that she feels God caused a miscarriage because she was on birth control and that was God's way of punishing her. So now it's her goal in life to have as many kids as possible as her way of apologizing to God.
First of all, God doesn't cause miscarriages. Sh*t happens. It's a sad but true fact of life. Leave God out of it.
Second, children should be wanted by the parents, not used as an offering to God.
I can't believe nobody ever addresses the mental health issues that Michelle has. Anyone who thinks that miscarriages are God's punishment and having multitudes of children is what makes God happy has some issues. It seems more about getting to the next child than it does enjoying the child that is right in front of them.
I think they are a nice family and I don't think the kids are abused. There is nothing wrong with a kid learning how to cook and clean. I think more kids these days need to learn that. But I just question Michelle's mental health. Her baby making seems to go a bit deeper than "I just want a big family."

MOD NOTE: Folks, if I deleted any of your posts, I apologize, but this thread has gone WAY off topic and needs to be brought back to a civil discussion of the Duggars.
If you want to talk about race and ethnicity, please move the discussion to the Politics and Other Topics forum.
Thanks.

I have mixed feeling on the Duggar family. Yes I give them total props for being able to support each and everyone of those kids. They are raising their children to be kind decent people. The things I don't agree with is the older kids raising the younger ones. The children do all the cooking/cleaning from the way they talk. Michelle and Jim Bob to me seem like they are there to precreate and that is about it. I do not know them personally, and they probally are the nicest people in the world. BUT on the other hand, I have heard them speak on many diffrent shows and they say that they pay cash for everything otherwise they don't buy it~they have never declined a free hand out though. That is another thing that bothers me! Their home was finished for them by Ty Pennington and the Extreme Home Makeover group(7000 sq feet loaded to the hilt).
Also I believe Michelle should worry about her health. Her uterus is going to fall out(not literally) but I wouldn't doubt that her DR has warned her against having anymore babies. At some point it is unhealthy. Ok that was my 2 cents...

I can assure you as someone that personality knows the family. Michelle has no mental issues. Michelle has simply chosen a different way of life. Just because something isn't right for you or is different doesn't make it wrong. Michelle has very strict religious beliefs and that is why she feels the ways she does.
Michelle loves being a mother that is why she has chosen to have so many children.

One thing I don't get, and actually very much offends me (due to the fact that the Duggar's are apart of my extended family) is some peoples desire to see the children fail. I must ask what kind of sick individuals are out there that would wish this upon children?

It seems they are a happy family? what appears to be and what is could be two different things. I am not saying, they are not, I just think time will tell. When the kids leave home lets see what happens and what comes out about their lives..

Will you question the mental health of that woman who just made the papers, in Flint Michigan, who has 10 kids (each by a different man), no job, no car, and who is on assistance programs, none of the baby daddys stuck around... She just recently had her 10th kid, at a time she was complaining about having no money.
Will you question her? Will you condemn her?

It simply is an opinion. I happen to wonder what she is thinking as well.
Sheere, you keep stressing you know her and I am sure you do, but I have to wonder why she loves being a mommy so much and being pregnant so much? Many of us love or loved raising our kids, but few would want to keep having them every year. This is not normal. As for wanting to see her kids fail, maybe a few feel this way, but I do not think most of us do, we just think this is a very strange family..

I see a few books being written, 20/20 and dateline interviews. It may be they have great things to say then again maybe not. Let's hope for the best.
I just can't imagine going through morning sickness/labor/delivery that many times. Ugh!
