Default Depression? Chic?

BTW The Business Week: What's Selling? The Great Depression - BusinessWeek

I just had to laugh after reading the last post on why people live in Arkansas and then seeing this.

Quote:
Depression chic has already hit the fashion runways. Organic by John Patrick, a ready-to-wear label, is showing prairie-style cotton-check and hand-spun floral dresses in its spring 2009 collection. Newsboy caps and suspenders are core accessories

Stylish eating our racoon barefoot. Who knew!

How funny is this? I can cook any kind of bean you can find. Maybe I should open a bean and cornbread restaurant or a ketchup soup kitchen. I could teach classes on how to be poor. My depression era dad that lived in tents during real depression would think this is the ultimate hoot.

Heh......as the world turns.

When I worked up north, people made fun of my accent and me saying "y'all".

Then.....as I earned my "rep", they'd slip stuff in during conversation, like, "That dog don't hunt". Then they'd look at me like a puppy dog that just showed he's housebroke and wants approval for not ruining the rug.

Man...that would crack me up.

Ya know it can't be long before "Mr. Food" shows how to make possum stew on the newsbreak.

I always liked the barrel with suspenders look. Stuffed Armadillo for Thanksgiving Dinner is always good, just a bit chewy.

You need to check out Cooking with Phyllis on AETN. I swear I think I caught an episode a couple of years ago about possum stew.

I wouldn't mind some of those styles coming back. It sure beats the emo craze we are seeing today.

I'd love to dust off my hats and coats and wear them without getting odd looks...and pick me up a hot flapper girl...
