You're excused and forgiven! As long as you know now; that's all that matters.

My wife and I have lived in Searcy for about 9 years. Here is a little bit of info. regarding the different aspects of Searcy (weather, employment, housing, etc.)
WEATHER:
**Summers are extremely HOT w/high humidity. Daytime highs range from the lower 90's to the mid 100's. Heat Index ranges from 100 to 115.
**Autumn can be a pretty nice time of year. Temps are usually in the mid 60's to mid 80's; however, the humidity, like most of the year, is high.
**Winter is usually very mild (upper 40's to upper 60's) with an occasional ice storm. Ice is more common than snow. Searcy may receive a decent snowfall (2-4 inches) every 2-3 years.
**Spring has a short stretch (1-2 months) of nice weather similar to fall temps but jumps into summer usually the beginning or middle of May. Arkansas is in Tornado Alley, so watch out for the late winter and spring storms.
JOB MARKET:
**The 2 largest employers are the medical profession and the local university.
Searcy has a very "Born-Here, Raised-Here" culture and attitude. This also extends the job market. It can be very difficult to find employment in Searcy. A number of people commute to Little Rock.
COST OF LIVING:
**Utilities, due to the extreme heat, are usually high. Gas prices are no different than the rest of the country. Housing prices range from the low 100's to low 300's for the most part. Real-estate taxes fall in the 500-1500/yr. range.
THINGS TO DO AND SCENERY:
There are not a lot of activities in the town of Searcy itself. There are some decent golf courses in Searcy and surrounding areas. Little Rock (45 miles north) would be the closest town for activities. Heber Springs (Greers Ferry Lake) is also about 40 miles from Searcy and is a great summer destination. I would not consider Searcy a town of natural scenic beauty. It lies in the flat section of Arkansas.
CRIME:
Searcy has seen an increase in crime over the past 2-3 years. I would attribute the increase in crime to the local drug problem. Searcy and White co. has a major problem with "Meth".
PEOPLE:
The people, for the most part, exhibit warm "Southern Hospitality" and are good neighbors.
CHURCHES:
Searcy has many good churches (Baptist, Church of Christ, etc.). Searcy is a Christian town with Christian values.
I will be glad to try to give you feedback on any other questions you might have.

Thanks for the awesome, detailed response! Have not made any decisions about relocating at this time. Interested in possible career change in 1 to 3 years and Searcy has a college I was interested in (teaching).
Thanks again!

My brother and his family reside in Searcy and have so for the last 10 years. I think it is a nice town, a good place to raise a family or retire. But, there is little to do there and the place is run by the Church of Christ. Plus, you can't get a drink or buy a beer for miles around.

Thanks for the response. Not sure where we'll end up...considering options at this point. Nice to know it's a family friendly community.

Searcy is conservative religious town of about 20,000 and is a retail center as well as having Harding University, a good hospital and walmart distribution warehouses. Searcy and the county are dry ( as that regards alcohol). There is some nice new residential construction. The Maytag dryer manufactuirng plant will be closed in 2007, employment there is 700. Searcy is a regional center for employment.
