Default Camden,Arkansas

If you are moving from your current place and have not really made your mind on where; consider Camden. You will find beautiful flowers there. Check the chamber of commerce website about the nationally acclaimed Daffodil Fest. This is also home to a beautiful high bank river that is navagatable to the Gulf of Mexico, great hunting and fishing, camping with a 15,000 acre lake well into the planning stage and I 69 soon to be a reality 10 miles South of town. Historically, In 1850 Camden was the second largest city in Arkansas due to it being a seven county hub for the shipping of cotton to New Orleans by steamship. The Civil War battlefield and historical places around town from that period make this place unique. As a life long resident i`ve traveled far and wide and this place has the clean air and natural beauty that Arkansas is know for and compairs to any place of beauty. We need new people here and if you like the discription; this is your place.

[quote=Honey;22561]Does anyone know about this town or if there is anything close? I asked earlier on existing thread and didn't get response so am afraid,,,,,noone has anything good to report lol I looked at housing and there was definitely not much choice and seems like most existing towns are quite aways from Camden. Any information would be greatly appreciated![/quote

hi i lived in camden for several years. and it doesn't have much to offer. if you want to go to a mall with nice restaurants and movie theaters sams clubs etc.then you have to either go to texarkana, hot springs ar, monroe la,little rock ar,or memphis. which is to an hour drive or longer just getting there. the best paying jobs are industrial located going out to east camden which is not far to drive but it's like fort knox getting on out there. they had one main plant which was international paper or ip. it shut down few years back, and lost alot of residents. its not a very good place to to live and raise your family unless you are related to someone b/c everyone knows everyone and thats how you get the good jobs by being in the know and in the click. the crime is not high but is very over run with drugs bc the teens don't have anything to do out there thats decent.ppl rather go to walmart in eldorado, ar b/c it offers more and is pretty much what they considered a mall. i told my husband i will never go back. maybe to visit but not to live. too much drama. Moderator cut: edit there is nothing else their to entertain them.
sorry to put it down it was a culture shock for me when i moved from new orleans to there when i was 15. but i learned the pros and cons of city life compared to small town life.

well the only thing i can agree on is that you will be at walmart for everything. the ppl are very freindly, but clickish as well. the schools are good. but what yo don't want known don't tell it and if you plan on drinking on sunday buy your beer on saturday. gossip down there can destroy you very easily. once you have a black label have fun finding a job. b/c like i said everyone knows everyone and everyone is somehow related to everyone.

and camdenites love new blood because it gives them something new to talk about. and you will get talked about. be prepared to become famous without the glitter and glamor.

I grew up in Camden and left when I was 22. Camden is a lot like Peyton Place, in the sense that the young people who grow up there leave. I love Camden because it is my home town, but the city fathers had and have no vision. It has the Quachita River running through it, but unfortunately it is not utilized like other cities use their rivers. The river actually runs by the down town area, but you will not find any restaurants on the river, in the down town area. With the right planning Camden could be an Oasis in South Arkansas, but it will never happen, until old men die off and their offspring who they have polluted die off with them. Some day small towns in America may see a new growth, as people want to move from the cities, but I am afraid Camden will not be a part of that regrowth.

Default I agree also....

We've visted lots of states and towns, thinking that we'd like to move elsewhere, but as we get older, we feel that a town is what you make of it. Camden could have the growth if we had the industry to offer and the money to make the town come alive. I agree that someone could make great use of the river. During the early 1900's there was lots on the river to attract the people, with the steamboats coming down the Ouachita river. My Mom use to tell me stories about visiting the steamboats on the river and that there use to be a hotel close to the river. I'd like to see Camden prosper in some way in the future.
