So we're heading to Hot Springs for the first time Memorial Day Weekend and I'm wondering if anyone can suggest some good areas to stay? A little more info... we have two small children; 3 and 1, so we'd like more than one bedroom. In addition to enjoying a vacation here, we're also looking to see if it is someplace we'd consider buying a vacation home in the next few years. If we did, we'd probably buy something on the water so we'd like to take that into consideration as well for where we stay. Are Lake Hamilton and Lake Catherine the two main lakes in that area to stay on and which would you recommend more for families? What are the differences between the two? We'd like to feel like we're in the middle of nowhere but still be close to civilization. Can anyone help us navigate?

Default Hot Springs

Don't really know about accommodations at Lake Cathrine except that there is a campground and a residential subdivision called Diamondhead. Everything evolves around Lake Hamiliton. There are many many many places (condos, motels, hotels, timeshares etc.) to choose from for a vacation and future vacation home. It would be difficult to say which one would appeal to you. All of them on the south side (coming in from Ar 7) are relatively close to water activities, mall, restaurants etc. The Bath houses and downtown shopping is about 5-7 miles from there. The visitors center is near the bath houses. I'm not recommending anything but from the telephone book, here are a few of the places you may want to call. Clarion (501)525-1391. Days Inn (501)525-5666. Sunbay (501)5254691. After you arrive, drive around to see what fits.

We spent a few nights at the Country Inn at the south end of Hot Springs last week and had no complaints. Approx $90 per day for a couple. We found the motel to be exceptionally clean with a HUGE continental breakfast provided each morning.

Default Several Places

There are lots of good places to stay in Hot Springs. If you're wanting to fish, boat and swim, then find a condo or cabin on the lakefront! We spent an incredible week there right on the lakefront. You can go online to HotSprings Vacations, and search cabins or condos. We went thru a realtor and got a nice 2 bdroom completely furnished.

The hotels there are nice too, some have playgrounds and pools that may be a option but very close to the water. You usually can drive thru town and pick and choose, but holiday weekends may be pushing it.

All my life people have said Lake Catherine is cleaner and prettier than Hamilton, but we've always enjoyed them both.

Gosh, there is so much to do in Hot Springs, we never do it all in one trip. I think you'll have a blast. Hope this helps.

thanks so much guys! We ended up renting out a 3 bedroom home on Lake Hamilton. I'm really excited to go! Does anyone else own a vacation home there or live/visit there on a regular basis that could give me some more info. as to whether or not it's worth it to buy a second home there for vacations? Where the more desirable area's are for people vacationing there? Other things that might be good to know with regards to owning property in the area?
