Default Activities/Attractions around Batesville, Arkansas.

My wife and I are planning a vacation to Batesville with our 2 daughters to visit some of my family and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for activities. This is not our/my first time there. Last year we visited Blanchard Springs Caverns and did the Dripping Springs trail. This year we plan to do the Discovery Trail and spend a whole day around the springs and creek. At the moment we are planning on the 3rd week of July so that we can also attend the County Fair. At this time we are unsure how long we are going to stay, atleast 4 days possibly 5.. Other than the two things I named above what other attractions are there within a reasonable driving distance? We spend a bit of time on the White River but were not real impressed with the "trails", perhaps we weren't able to locate the whole trail system. Thank you for any input.

It sounds like you are looking for outside recreational stuff, and although I'm in Batesville frequently, I'm usually limted to shopping needs and Josie's ().

However, I can offer you this for a start:

Batesville Arkansas .com Attractions

and tell you that Mountain View in July is in full swing, if you want to go north, Mountain Home also offers a full menu of outdoor activity, or you may want to take a rainy day drive on 167 north and explore some small towns.

Nice architecture in some of them, and houses and buildings dating back to 18-way-long-time-ago.

Here's one I live about 10 miles from. It's...."folksy":

ESHistory_NS

Try eating at "Woodie's" on Main Street if you go. It's *genuine* small southern town, so....yes...they'll ask, "Where y'all from?", because everybody knows everybody out here.

If you want to try getting some south in your mouth, check Kelly Wyatt's on the north side of town right on 167.

No real atmosphere, but clean with a buffet that generally always includes greens, catfish, fried chicken, grits, slow cooked beans, cornbread, taters 'n' gravy....

It's what we call "health food", round these parts.

Thanks for the info... but you know.. it's not like we are from "Up North"..

I also spent time when I was younger in Mountain View at the Folk Center, but for almost $50 for the family to go I am not sure it would be worth it.

Nope, you're not from up north, but we gotta be careful, I hear there's "slickers" hangin' around this forum every now 'n' again, ya know?

Seriously, the Folk Center is cool, but it's kind of Grand Canyon thing, "If you've seen it once....."

When I meet tourists around this area, I usually recommend a Saturday at Old Hardy Town, two blocks of neat shops and a few restaurants, maybe a trip to Calico Rock, that kind of thing.

There's tons of hiking/canoeing/fishing areas around the Batesville area, but I am deficit in a lot of it as my hiking consists of checking/repairing my fence line.

As July approaches, much more will surface as the areas crank up their tourist draws, so I'd say get active about June, and you might want to check back in here also.
