Default Nucor Steel in Blytheville, Rumors

I've heard rumors that Nucor Steel in Blytheville is going to start decreasing their production by running 2 weeks on/2 weeks off. This would devastating for local truck drivers and many others depending on this industry. Any comments?

Should be some around.

IIRC, the issue was that they were losing a lot of their contracts due to the down swing.

The unique thing is, everbody gets paid according to production, not hourly. Although they're not laying anybody off, employees said they were making about 50% this year of what they made a year ago.

Here in Minnesota, I saw a tv special on the Nucor plant in Blythville and the reporter did a tour.

The purpose was to show how much the stimulus bill would help Nucor cuz the steel from the infrastucture stimulus would have to come from the US and not be imported from Japan or China.

(the CEO of Caterpillar also was featured as he did NOT want the "US provision" in the stimulus bill for fear of trade retaliation)
