Fun atmosphere, but the BBQ? Eh. Smokin in Style on Albert Pike is better.
But neither is particularly suited for vegetarians. I'll have the ribs. Hold the ribs.

McClards is overrated, but anything with that type of reputation is bound to be. Many locals do seem to prefer Smokin' In Style. I like Smokin' In Style's sides more, but I think the actual barbeque at McClards is better. I also tend to find the service at McClards to be bordering on surly, but I guess you can be that way when you're the main game in town. When I lived in Hot Springs, my favorite barbeque was actually Mickey's (who worked for McClards for many years), up Park Avenue, but it was definitely hit or miss on whether it'd be open.
Ditto on Cafe 1217 - probably the best restaurant I can think of off the top of my head with vegetarian/healthier fare.
Other options that are good and would probably have menu choices for vegetarians - Rods Pizza or Rocky's Pizza, J's Italian Villa, Rolando's (I believe more accurately Ecuadorian than Mexican - I was prepared to find it too exotic, but it was very good). Don Juans and La Hacienda are the two well-known Mexican restaurants, and I'd highly recommend either one. La Hacienda is probably the more "touristy" one, but I think it probably deserves such a status. Does she eat fish? There are a couple good seafood restaurants on the lake (my preference is Cajun Boilers, but Fisherman's Wharf is okay too). I can think of other good restaurants, but they're mostly pretty heavy on the carnivore side of things...

She is thinking about trying fish, I'm sure I can coax her into trying it.

Everyone has their likes and dislikes of the restaurants in Hot Springs. We seem to end up going to the New China Chinese Resturant for their buffet - noon or evening. We enjoy the peel-n-eat shrimp and crawfish. The veggie selection usually has broccoli florets, rice, sauteed mushrooms, green beans, egg rolls, potatoes and other choices besides the chinese fare. The salad bar has the usual salad items in addition to fresh fruits. They also have a sushi bar. We usually finish off with cobbler topped with the soft ice cream or the soft ice cream in a cone. The premises are very clean and your dollars don't seem to fly out of your wallet when you hit the cashier, i.e. it's reasonable.

I think she likes Chinese but I absolutely hate it. We might just end up going to two different places but thanks for suggesting a Chinese buffet.
