If you don't have a rooster, how do you get eggs?

Hens lay eggs no matter if there is a rooster around or not. If there is a rooster around, there is a possibility that they will lay fertilized eggs.

Actually, some of my co-workers just informed me that there is special feed that you feed hens if you don't want a rooster around that stimulates egg production. My grandmother always had a rooster for her hens, so I just assumed you needed a rooster. My bad.

My wife just mentioned that yesterday.

Hmmm...where were *you* yesterday SC??????

I gotta confess, I'm deficit in the egg identification department.

I eat free range eggs here all the time. I'm cleaning those things every day.

Now when I go out for breakfast, I know I get commercial eggs, and I really can't tell a dramatic difference.

I recall runnin' my mouth about being a beer connoisseur when I was in college.

OH...YEAH...like you've never done that....

Anyway, somebody challenged me and lined up 6 beers in glasses.

Good thing I enjoyed the free beer, because I only got two right.

Maybe it's just my taste buds.

BTW, there is hormonal feed you can administer for increased production.

A rooster has nothing to do with production, just fertilizing.

Now....about them brown chickens laying brown eggs, and white ones laying white ones.......

you know I think store eggs used to not be as fresh as they are today. I can still tell the difference if I go from fresh to store or restaurant, but it used to be the store eggs tasted really strong after eating fresh eggs. Probably they have much better refridgeration than 20 or more years ago..

Even though I majored in foods and nuitrition and would rather cook than do almost anything except be on the computer or playing bridge, I am not a connoisseur on much, not ever wine...I can just drink a lot of it..

I think that well known philosopher Merle Haggard put it best...

"Think I'll just stay here, and *drink*".

Excellent post. Thank you. Keep spreading the word that the food is bad in the Missouri-Arkansas Ozarks, so non-Ozarkers won't continue to invade us. Thanks. (And I hope you, too, will be able to find a place more appropriate, satisfactory and suitable for you to live. Good luck! )
