My husband just moved to Fayetteville, got job in U of A. I'll be joining him in a month from OK. We have a 5 yr old boy who will start kindergarden this fall. Can you suggest me good elementary school (I mean friendly teachers, Principal etc.,mutlticultural etc) I'll decide to rent after finalizing the school

Default Lots of good elementary schools in Fayetteville

My sons attend Leverett Elementary and love it. The school is close to the University, very diverse (both socio-economically and racially).

Washington Elementary is also near the UofA and is another wonderful, small school.

I also have many friends whose children attend Holcomb Elementary. It is diverse as well (but larger than the other two).

Many other Fayetteville schools are excellent -- I'm just highlighting the ones that are most diverse (as you mentioned that in your question).

P.S. If you are moving to the area with kids, check out www.lifepluskids.com. It is all about things to do and places to go with kids in Northwest Arkansas. You will not want to miss the summer camp guide. Here's the link.

Root is also supposed to be a great school. It's on the east side of town.

You happened to find an Asbell PTA parent who can help you out!

My kids are in 5th & 2nd grade at Asbell and have both gone there since kindergarten. We have been very pleased with this school! So pleased that when we bought a home in another district we requested a transfer so they could stay at Asbell. Asbell is very diverse when it comes to race as well as socio-economics.

This past year was Asbell's first year as a "year round" school. We now prefer this vs. the traditional school year. About the time the kids hit acedemic burn out- there is always a break right around the corner. Family trips/vacations have always been important to us and we were able to take even more because the kids were often out of school during non peak tourist seasons when traveling is cheaper. I thought childcare during breaks would be a problem, but the school offers day camps with activites for an affordable price.

However- my son goes to a traditional calendar Jr. High next fall and I do not want each child on a different calendar, so we are going to let our daughter go to Holcomb (we actually live in their district).

Happy Hollow is also year round. IMHO- there are no bad schools here. I would be fine sending my children to any of them.

For multicultural you can't beat Leverett!! We moved here from Europe last year and our kids found the adjustment quite easy. There were 55 kids in the school who spoke a language in addition to English--most of their parents are associated with the university as students or professors. The international events were great.

Really, though? All the schools in Fayetteville are good.
