What about hardware stores? Has Lowes/Home Depot taken over yet? What about contractors in the area? Are there a zillion or since the demand is high, its still in need? Is there a need for remodeling in the area?
I am reading more and more that in the bad economy, people are remodeling instead of buying new or building and that the demand is very high for that.. Plus your area has had a very steady increase in population for the last 10 yrs... So it seems that the demand there would be high.. Any thoughts???
Thanks again folks!!

There still is a lot of building but even here the economy has done it's damage and lots of homes are sitting vacant (new homes). I don't know about re-modeling, how much is going on, or the need, but I am sure others can help you. As for hardware, yes, we have Lowe's everywhere and several Home Depots, but that doesn't mean a small family hardware store can not make it.. I am just thinking you are going to need to either get quite a bit farther away from Fayetteville or Bentonville and drive to your businesses or re-think this. You will not find anything meeting your desires within a few minutes of Fayetteville, Rogers, Bentonville, BV area..

Realtors in the area are saying that things are picking up. Several bankers are saying the same thing. I do billing for a local contractor, business has been picking up for him. So there do seem to be signs of recovery. But this won't be a fast recovery. A lot of damage has been done. Around me several older homes have been gutted and remodeled during the past couple of years. Wish I had the money to do that for mine.
Also, Pea Ridge needs a hardward store! And it's only a few minutes to Fayetteville, Rogers, Bentonville, or Bella Vista from Pea Ridge. Unfortunately, there are Thai restaurants in Rogers and Bentonville. Instead of high end, why not do cheap Chinese takeout? Definitely need more of that in Benton County.

It sure is nice to have a 'local' hardware store - luckily we still have one of those places in Fayetteville on Leverett Avenue. The kind of place you walk in, pet the dogs, they hand your kid a bag of popcorn, the order and selection of merchandise seems sporadic and makes no rhyme nor reason - yet they seem to have everything you would ever need from a hardware store.

Yes, it is picking up, but it is still slow..Many of the homes selling are those that have been on the market for a year. I think in another year or two everything will be on the move again..As for Pea Ridge, I know most of us prefer to support local businesses, so if they need one, that might be a great place to look into.
As for having the money to gut and refurbish, I am with you. I have done most everything in my life I wanted to do..Most of our dreams have come true or the ones that haven't we are content to forget, but that is the one thing I would love to have had. We did rent an old Victorian home in Eureka Ca (built in 1890) but we were only there for 6 months until we could bet into the one we were buying..The people who bought the old house did re-do it, ONG, what a show place..He had a small stained glass business, need I say more??

The rest. we currently have has take out and we deliver too. But its not chinese.. The cook doesnt know chinese.. He does Thai only. But there are a lot of similar tastes like Duck, sweet n sour, many noodle and veggie dishes, lots of curry sauces, an awesome basil sauce too.. He is also into cooking w/o trans fat and as organic as possible.. and Diffently no MSG!!
Nina- We have remodeled our house several times... It runs in our family.
We fell thats the only way to go. Where was your victorian house? Is eureka springs filled with houses like that?
Our hardware store would also help with installations and remodeling.. especially for folks that cant do it themselves. A family run business we can hand down to my boys.. and yes we have a dog too..My husband can do about anything to a house and is also a stone/brick mason.. So he is very handy.. Other then our outside (frame) of our new house we will build, we are going to do everything else ourselves... and a huge walkin stone fireplace in the kitchen... So I can cook with it too Building and helping others with it is a passion of our families and we want to be able to build on it.
Hope this better explains our vision

Nina-
Sry I thought I heard somewhere that Eureka Springs had a lot of those kind of homes.
Stormcrow73- sry.. Maumelle is a little too far south for us. Our ultimate goal is green mountains, water of some kind, more liberal then conserative, and not too hot/humid in the summer... I dont think that middle of AR will cut it..lol Thanks for the invite though
