I do pickles every year too Nita. I sure wish we had decent Farmer's Markets here but we don't. Now that my parents are on there way up to Bella Vista I'll be visiting yours plus the craft shows and of course the apple feast. Did I ever tell you I have a "sort of" blueberry U-Pick. When we took permanent position (we travelled with husband job before) here in Eastern OK. My husband said that if we had to live in OK we were going to ranch. Yea, right, he works and travels and I ranch. Well, getting the land I started a Blueberry U-Pick and a Christmas Tree Farm. BUT PEOPLE in this area do not really care to pick so I pick and eat blueberries every day of the year..... Has anyone ever had blueberry wine...running out of ideas for blueberries.

can't stand sweet wine so don't think I would even attempt to find a recipe for blueberry wine, but we did do some picking last year. Our granddaughter went to the picking farm (we have a few around here) she picked, brought them to the house and we did the usual, jam, jelly and froze a bunch..

Since you are talking gardening on his post... Hows the soil down there to garden with?? Is there areas that are too rocky to have a garden?.. If we move there we want a huge garden.. want to know where we SHOULDNT look. Thanks!

we have many farms around here, they produce corn, cukes, squash, tomotoes, beans, onions, you name it. But it isn't as good apparently as east Ar..yes, the ground is rocky...More than where you shouldn't look is where would be the very best..
As for Mena, I don't know a lot about the area, but I am not sure they would support an upscale Asian restaurant like you talk about opening..

It's not like the productive garden like farm ground of much of the midwest, but you still can have a dump truck or two of good dirt delivered anywhere and still have a garden.

What about basements? Here in Mi most all houses have them, but other parts of the country you cant have them.. What about AR?
As far as the gardening goes I know you can deliver good soil anywhere but I didnt know if it was too rocky to even dig up the soil..
BTW.. I have considered building an underground house.. So thats why I was wondering about soil areas.

Needing more: here in Rogers the soil is on the heavy side, but overall good for planting, not many stones at all. I had to get some acidic soil bought in for my blueberries though. Basements seem to be rare, I've yet to visit a house that has them.

no basements, no underground hourses. yes, you can bring in dirt like suggested...The garden part will work fine, the underground house, forget that..

We've got some underground houses around here, Nita, and we have *absolutely* the worse dirt in AR. If it ain't bedrock, it's 4 oz of dirt per 5 lbs of stones.
However, never underestimate a hillbilly with the keys to heavy equipment and a case of beer.
