Looking to buy a Sheltie.
I live in Brinkley Ar. and I am looking to buy a female sheltie puppy. My best friend has a 5 year old Sheltie male and is one of the best behaved and smartest dog I have ever been around. I have just moved into a house with a nice fenced in back yard and would love to have a Sheltie to share it with.

I see some 417 area codes in there. I believe that's S. Missouri, isn't it?
Surely some AR's in there.
Here's some in Fouke:

Sometimes you gotta travel.
A neighbor just went from Izard Co. to near Fayetteville for an AKC Malamute.
I've trained more than a couple of dogs, and be advised that dog breed doesn't have a ton of effect on them as far as the temperment you want.
It's selective breeding and training 99.5%

Even if you are thinking of a puppy, please, please consider a rescue sheltie. google "sheltie rescue arkansas" and you should be able to pull up some sheltie rescue organizations in your general area. We were looking for another sheltie & I was amazed (& sad) to see how many there are here in the southeast who need homes.
Our previous sheltie was a rescue dog, and he was the smartest thing! When he looked at you, you knew he was really thinking. And he was always "working" - herding us or keeping watch on the place. Whatever you get, enjoy your little puffball!

Yes, they need to get out and run or as with most all dogs that are 'runners' and get cooped up, they'll develop behavioral issues.
We have a lot of sheep dogs and bird dogs out here, and most all of them ended up here because some city folk with a 40 X 60 back yard thought, "That's enough room".
Then when the dog esapes for the 3rd time, has chewed up the couch, the side of the garage, grandma's favorite slippers, and squats on the carpet every other day, they put them in the car, and drive them waaaaay out in the country, to the "sticks", and dump them out.
And that....is where we are, and they get hungry, and they find a farm, and we feed them, take them to a vet, and we don't have a single problem in the world.
I don't know but a few people that have bought 'specialty' dogs out here.
The rest of us have got real good dogs.
Courtesy of the city folk.
BTW, when did people start putting an earring on a darned dog?
That's the stupidist thing I've ever seen.
BTW.....
Spay or neuter, *please*.

I've been out of the loop for a bit and am anxious to get back IN. Life got in the way doggone it!!
We have occasional ads for shelties in Hot Springs; lost, found, for sale, to give away. They don't stay in the paper for very long. The breeder we got ours from has long since gone out of business. Wendi was from one of their last litters. I'd give my right arm to have another one but am so afraid of inbreeding in this area that I'd not stay local. RESCUE sounds awesome!!
GOOD LUCK cynic!!!
I agree that dogs do need exercise, however, wendi has adapted nicely to shorter, arthritic neighborhood walks instead of the three acres we used to have elsewhere. She does still watch for any signs that one of us needs her to DO something and that's one reason I'm working toward having us certified for Pet Therapy. She's an angel!!

One thing to keep in mind about shelties...they're high maintenance in the hair care department. Once the full coat comes in, it can get pretty messed up without regular brushing. Esp around the ear area.
Also, they shed in clumps once the warmer weather shows up but if you keep them shaved for summer, that's not a problem. We get wendi's summer cut in early spring and she's much more comfy that way, even tho all that luxurious hair is gone, except for the ruff we have them keep around her neck.
I miss the sheer beauty of all that gorgeous hair...it's one of the reasons they get so much attention...that beautiful coat... but she doesn't mind going nekkid at all.
