It used to be young people always were involved. But those young people are now middle aged and older..I was taught as a youngster that voting was something everyone should do, we taught our kids the same thing and they have taught their kids that.
I don't know anything about the oldsters that run Pa, but it takes more than a few ideas to be a good leader.
I happen to have read what the op has written, he would be a good candidate, not all young people are as informed as he. It isn't the age of the person running that should make a difference, it is the views and understanding of how the government works that makes a good candidate.
Your referance to Obama connecting, yes, this is true but it appears you are rather young; Kennedy brought out the college age kids and whether you want to believe this or not, so did Reagan and Carter to a degree. And do you think people past their early 20s do not know about Facebook, etc?

wow, Johnson City, our son had a full baseball scholarship to ETSU and his first wife graduated from there. We won't talk about how long ago that was. Yes, old money can present issues even if you are not young..

OP (original poster), anyone can run for mayor at a certain age, but to be honest, I've read all your posts, and to put it kindly, I think you should mature a little more before you attempt anything that requires wisdom. You also should learn to spell and to write coherently.

i actually know how to spell and write...plus you do not know me in real life so i suggest you back off please and thank you

As a youngster, or anyone not knowing the procedure, your best bet is to go down to the courthouse and look for the city attorney's office. Tell them your interests and see what they have to say about it. They should help you with the paperwork.

I voted 'No'. I think anyone wanting to run for public office should have real world experience (be it in the workforce, the military, public/community service, etc.), have a grasp of current issues and the English language, and have some kind of formal education beyond high school.

*sigh* I thought just like you when I was 17.....all the old fogies were doing everything the wrong way. I'm afraid you would be totally lost trying to be the mayor of Mountain Home. But there's no law that says you can't run. I suppose different towns have different laws on the age requirements, as I also read about that teenage boy being mayor somewhere.
By the way, is your survey asking whether a teenager can legally run for mayor, or is it asking whether we feel a teenager could do a good job as mayor?

i didn't ask neither of those Q's (that's short for question) and the word "that's" is short for that is. Two can play this game. that is because all you old people are running the government wrong
