There was someplace downtown that sold a burger called the hubcap burger, I think. People seemed to like it. I saw one once, and decided it was a bit much.
A little drive in place on Cantrell called The Hop wasn't bad.
North Little Rock used to have a Steak & Shake. It wasn't the best one I've been to, but it's gone out of business, anyway. Culver's has a similar burger, but I don't think they're in that area.
Do they have Red Robin's down there yet? Now there's an interesting burger joint.

Yes, esp. the vanilla shake with a shot of ameretto. (at Purple Cow.)
Buffalo Grill has great burgers, as does Arkansas Burger Co. on Cantrell.
Cotham's is the one with the hubcap burger. The original is in Scott.
There's also Big Mama's Burgers on Kanis and Shackleford, which is associated with the now lamentably closed (but supposedly franchising out of Dallas) Mama Bea's. I haven't had their burgers, only their catfish, but the original Mama Bea's--in a tire shop on Asher--had the best burgers in TOWN, hands down.

Funny thing about Asher, it did (maybe still does?) have some of the best eating places in town.

Two of my favorite places are on Asher: El Dorado, and Kitchen Express. Also there was a fantastic hoagie place a block from my house (actually on Roosevelt, but you know, basically Asher extended) that had the best Italian Beef in town. Sadly, they closed a couple of months ago. And Van Lang--less than a block off Asher on University--is another one of my favorites.
I was thinking the other day about going to Hank's Dog House when I was little. The name doesn't sound like it, but it was a dim-light white-tablecloth steak-and-seafood kind of place that seemed crazy fancy to me at that time. I guess it's because back before I-30 was built, Highway 70 was one of the main routes into and through town.
I also remember going to Casa Bonita, but I don't think it was for the food. It was because my and my brother loved the decor, and the mariachi band, and raising the little flag for more food, and going to the Treasure Room to get a toy after dinner. And the sopapillas with honey, nom.

I'm jealous. Maybe since NLR is getting one NWA won't be far behind.
I'm traveling to Memphis in a few weeks for a wedding. Looks I'll be taking a slight lunch detour to McCain.

I live in NY state right now, but a few years ago hubby and I mobed to Flippin. Arkansas. Let me tell you, EVERY person Imet, always started OFF treating me nicely. Yes there were a few people who "didn't like outsiders" but, my living there made me not an outsider! Our neighbor helped us unload the moving truck without being asked, The towns people ALL were very kind to me, NO ONE tried to sdiscourage me from living ther. AND< I will be going back, not necesarily to Flippin, but def. THAT area, Mt. Home, Flippin, Yelllville,Marshall, Bruno etc. Yes they are small towns and aside from Mt. Home, not many to choose as no factories so to speak in those areas. I am a stay at home mom anyway, and Hubby can drive to wherever there is work there are towns not too far from all of those places. The schools were fantastic(remember, if you live in a small town, you will have small town businesses and schools, so be choosey,if you want a bustling town business wise, don't got o a small town, DUH??)
Guess what I am saying is, The people of Arkansas are NOT rude, and my own personal experience was that they welcomed us with open arms.I hope to move back ASAP!

Clarence, I am sorry you have decided this isn't the place for you, but better than moving here and being unhappy. I will bring up just one thing, remember the OPs experiences haven't been that of most people who come to AR. He pops up here everytime he has an isolated experience that doesn't make him happy and would like everyone to think these things happen daily. We can all find fault with something or someone constantly if we are looking for it. Mostly people in Ar are great, it is a beautiful state, low cost of living, culturally mixed, but it is on the conservative side.
When someone starts a negative thread, all those who have gripes seem to jump in and we all know it is easier to ***** than praise. Whatever you decide good luck to you.
