However, if a person *dare* post and say, "I accepted the Lord as my savior, and therefore do not condone <whatever>".

OH, bud......as Shakespeare put it, "Cry havoc and loose the dogs of war".

What you portray as a problem in California is valid. It is not limited to California. Many states have the problem, and eventually, sure as God made green apples it will be here.

I know that what you point out is not meant to be the only thing wrong with the state, and we're all aware of a plethora of issues in CA that make some people want to leave the state. Some people like it.

However, realize Kraken, that the attitude of taking care of those who did not work for it, who do not qualify for it, over the people who evry day work so that they may contribute a portion of that to the state & feds, is not limted to CA and very much exists here, also.

Someone posted a while back, "If you do not share my opinions, I don't think you're a very nice person".

Heh...you can't roll a rock up a hill that steep.

Anyway, most certainly welcome to the forum. Understand that just because you have, "been there, done that, got the t-shirt", certainly doesn't mean you're not going to get clobbered by someone who can use mom's laptop while she's at work.

Ha! That's ok, I have thick skin and am pretty much unaffected by disrespectful folks.

And yes, the problems here in California are NOT solely the problems of California nor are they the only problems in California.
Illegal aliens are only one problem in California and I am in no way suggesting that California would be perfect without all of the illegals.

I do feel very passionate about this topic and find it amusing and yet sad that people will make all kinds of assumptions about who I must be for feeling the way I do. Que sera sera!

I was born and spent the first 40 years of my life in California and you have essentially put the CA experience in a nutshell. I have tried to post this type of message on many of the California forums to discourage people from moving there. Most people get their impressions of CA from what they see on TV and movies. Well that experience is real for a few people and usually only if you are rich. So is every other experience on earth. I have spent the last 18 years in WA and am planning to move to either Las Vegas or Phoenix to get into a warmer climate, but except to visit my best friend, I would never go back to CA.
I hope you find happiness in your new home..
On the other hand, I have to tell you that the only info I have ever heard about Arkansas is that it has a high poverty level, the worst school system in the US, the home of Pres Clinton and a place where people marry their cousin.
I am intelligent enough to know better, but people like you who are passionate about your state need to post the truth so everyone can be educated.
Thanks for the opportunity to voice my opinion.

I used to live up on the Puget.

I don't know if there's a more beautiful area in the U.S.

I miss crab fishing in the Sound.

Riding the ferry, throwing scraps to the seagulls that followed.

Getting rained on every single blooming day until you're shriveled like a used-up sponge.

Kraken--lets assume for a second that you do move to Arkansas. Lets say that 4 years from now a referendum is on the ballot to legalize gay marriage. Lets say it is soundly defeated. Do you then leave Arkansas? I'm curious because you are moving to a state that outside of the obvious places that lean a little left of center,Fayetteville, Eureka Springs etc,the people in the rest of the state probably wont vote to make you happy.Do you then escape Arkansas?

I like and respect you, RogMar, but I'm afraid I'm going to have to ask you to cite exact instances of said posts. (To those who accept the 'Lord as their savior,' that would be 'book, chapter, and verse' please.)

Thanks.

RogMar,

In answer to your question, you need look no further than the first page of Arkansas threads -- "Gay, multi-racial family looking to move to Arkansas" -- for your answer.

I don't make unfounded allegations.

Do you?

And Kraken,

If you're gay, good for you. It just goes to show that everyone needs a scapegoat. Some folks scapegoat gays. Some scapegoat blacks. Name a group, and there's some other group scapegoating it.

You've chosen to scapegoat illegal immigrants, going so far as to blame them for the nation's economic collapse. Despite the fact that not one single nationally-recognized economist agrees with you, you've found others who are willing to join in your scapegoating.

If it makes you feel better about yourself to insult and degrade folks who have the audacity to try to make better lives for themselves and their children, then go right ahead. You'll find plenty of support here.

But just remember, somebody out there is using you as their scapegoat, too.

California is WAYYYYY too crowded, dirty, expensive, unkempt and the job market here absolutely SUCKS. I was cruising the want ads for Arkansas and I can make as much, if not more, money doing what I do in Arkansas as I was doing here in California. That says a lot about the job market out here...and even better? There are jobs all over Craigslist in Los Angeles wanting 10 years experience, a Bachelors degree, and a portfolio and they want to pay $10 an hour. It is ridiculous.
This is true in my field. Everyone always says things like 'oh, the cost of living is higher, but the salaries are higher, too.' This doesn't hold true for GIS. Salaries for these kinds of positions are generally lower in LA because (most likely) there is is more competition and eventually SOMEONE will take the job, even if the salary is really too low for the skills required.

I moved to LA from Pennsylvania, worked there for two years at a job with no health benefits that paid $13/hour (I did gain a lot of valuable experience, however), and then eventually took a job in Denver, Colorado, with a salary that is much higher than what I was making in LA. Quality of life is higher, too.

With that said, I don't hate California. I enjoyed my time there. But if I had to travel back in time and make the decision again, I would still choose to leave.

No, I don't, or at least try not to.

I believe the christian poster can be found in the resurrection of the Act 1 thread.

I just don't see this board as having a noteriety for bashing everything non-white & christian at all. I recall in the 233rd rebirth of Harrison that a few posters indicated that if their desire to live and raise their kids in a white town was bad, so be it. If that can be interpreted as being anti-anything, then I think one's skin may be a little too thin to have access to the internet.

If someone comes on here and says, "The whole world doesn't like me because I have red hair", and another states, "Sorry, but I just don't want to be around red heads", it's just two statements of opinion, and makes neither one fact.

I'm just seeing, strumpeace, a trend of the "politics and other controversies" board blending with this one, and it tends to feel like catching bird droppings on your stomach whilst sun bathing. Ya know?

BTW....I love you too.

Kinda like a rented mule.

I'd be happy to point Rog to the thread where a mother recently asked how her minority children would be treated in Bentonville and the question was mocked as California-driven PCness. Nope, mocking neeeeever happens. Yep, here's my military family, just complaining away about the mailman and the lottery. That's way more important than, say, the schools.
