Check out Fianna Hills; it's where my parents live and it's really nice. The homes are reasonably priced and it's a fairly safe country club neighborhood. Hardscrabble is nice too but more costly and the people are a little more arrogant. As a general rule stick to the south side and you'll be good!

What are the top 3 'must see or do' things in or around Fort Smith for a family with school age children in town for the day?

Top 3 things a family with school age children could do in Fort Smith.
1. Drive to Fayetteville - lot more things to do there
2. Drive to Tulsa - Lot of stuff to do there
3. Once you get there remember not to come back to Fort Smith.

I honestly can't think of anything. I live here and if we want to do anything fun we have to leave. You can drink in Fort Smith, but you need to be real careful of drinking and then driving over the county line because of the drunk driving check points at the dry county lines.

Hey I don't have kids I don't know.

Just off the top of my head

Huckabee Nature Center

The museums/art center (small but they are moving the art center into a bigger building)

Maybe try to catch some kind of an event at the convention center, best I can come up with on the spot.

The Marshals museum probably will be pretty nice.
