If you are going to work in the Springdale-Fayetteville area and want a "Small town" type atmosphere to live in you might consider some place like Prairie Grove. It is a small town with a downtown and civic organizations and it's own school system.
There are several small communities that used to be thriving and are now just "bedroom" communities for the "metro" area. Cave Springs, Elm Springs, Sonora, Goshen, and Farmington come to mind. Most of these towns (except for Farmington) send their children to the schools of the larger towns. Elkins also has it's own school system but it's downtown is pretty much dwindled away to nothing. Depending on how far you want to drive and what kind of amenities you want close by, there are several options for living in rural areas within a half an hour drive to the metro area. Winslow and West Fork are to the south of Fayetteville. As to crime it is minimal in these small towns. It is really not that bad in the metro area. Most of the crimes are "property" crimes (vandalism, burglary etc.) Most of the violent crimes, when they do happen, are domestic or drug related. And even though we are appalled when violent crimes happen, most people who have moved here from the bigger cities just laugh when we complain of a "crime problem!" In short you will enjoy living here. And you can find a home that is nestled in the hills of southern Washington County or on the edge of the bigger towns. Let me know if you have any further questions.Moderator cut: but not via DM, see Terms of Service Last edited by Sam I Am; 12-20-2007 at 06:03 PM. |

I am thinking of moving to AR I guess around Little Rock but I am open. I want to get a job in Human Services/Case Management field. How is the job
market in these fields in AR? I would like to move in an area that has a small town feel yet has cultural opportunities close by, maybe with public transportation. I have college age kids that will be coming with me, I'm a single parent. Thank you for any advice you can offer |

Case management as in nursing or case management as in social services?
Public transportation on the whole in Arkansas is pretty pathetic...NOTHING like what you would find in Long Beach. Where are the kids going to college? If they haven't picked I am thinking NW Arkansas for U of A and job opportunities. I think you can probably kiss the public transport goodbye. If it exists where you will be it probably isn't taking you to where you are going except via Iceland.

Let's face it though, most things in either the LR or NWA area are scarcely more than 30 minutes apart...with traffic. It isn't like we really NEED a good public transportation system here yet. |

How are your plans developing for relocating to northwest Arkansas? Are you planning to visit soon? If you already have what are your impressions? I know you will like it hear. Our winters are much much milder than Michigan's!!

however I have a feeling they don't know what they are talking about...just going by rumors. I really want a nice neighborhood, low crime, and a small town country type of feel. I know this sounds probably very ridiculous, but when I think of the south, I think of Paula Dean (Food network), and those are definitely the types of people that I would want to be my neighbor! :O

If you are looking for a little slower place, consider Benton County. I know, I know (for all of the hatemongers out there).......if you have been on this forum very long you will have read about how the rapid growth of Benton County has ruined it???? Trust me!!! Benton County is a great place to live despite the "growth spurt" it's experienced in recent years. Bella Vista, particular, is chocked full of people from Minnesota, Michigan, Iowa, Illinios, Wisconsin, and many other varieties of northerners. Heck, I've even had a couple of clients from Detroit!!! NWA Welcomes You!!!! |
