Vacationing in the Ozarks
Could someone please give me some advice on a vacation in the Ozarks. We want either a room or a small cabin - don't want to fish or hike - just look at the scenery. I have gone on-line, but only been able to find cabin rentals in the neighborhood of $159 a night!

Yeah...it isn't cheap.
Where exactly are you trying to get a cabin?
Eureka Springs, Arkansas Lodging Directory has a listing of cabins in/near Eureka Springs.

Try Cherokee Village.
If you don't want to be right on a lake or golf course and would rather have a nature view like it sounds you do, you can rent a house for around $85 per night.

Yes, I was going to suggest the state parks, especially Petit Jean or Mt. Nebo. I haven't stayed in one of their cabins in a long time, but they were always cheaper than private ones. Mt. Nebo is especially nice for scenery (it's a flat-topped mountain with lots of places to stop and look out over the surrounding land, also has a pool, bike rentals, sunrise and sunset points....sometimes you can catch people hang gliding off sunrise point), and you can easily drive over to Petit Jean for the scenery there, too. You can view the Falls from an overlook that's really easy to get to.
Mt. Magazine's cabins are expensive, though, because they're brand new and pretty fancy. But it's an easy drive away from Nebo also, and the drive there is scenic, too. In the Arkansas Ozarks, you should always take a different route to and from a place, because there is always something else to look at!

I wouldn't exactly call Cherokee Village the Ozarks. You want scenery, stick to NW Arkansas or the River Valley, where Petit Jean, Nebo, and Magazine are.

Cherokee Village is in the Ozarks. Those others are in the Ouachitas.

Yes, you're right. I meant, I guess, that CV is not in a mountainous area. Is it? I've never been there, but I've never wanted to go to that part of Arkansas because it's not mountainous like the western part, especially the NW part.

It's well within the Ozarks, but not in the steepest, biggest hills. Still, it has some pretty decent scenery, and is a stark contrast to the flatlands in the east. Worth a visit.
