Default Crystal mines

We want to do some crystal mining in the Mount Ida area. Anyone have suggestions on the best facility to use?

I'm personally not familiar with the area, but I quickly found these few that were close by Mount Ida.

ARKANSAS QUARTZ CRYSTAL WELCOME TO SWEET SURRENDER CRYSTALS

Hope this helps.

I went crystal mining with a group. In was at Fisher Mountain. I recall is that the road to the mine area was terrible. I don't know how it is for other mining areas.

This site has a lot of useful info.

If i may ask.........What do folks do with the crystals they have mined. I assume they are not precious gems?

Kinda like arrow heads. Just something to collect. Put them in a shoe box and ever now and then, pull them out and show to a friend. Our boy found a 1.75 carrat diamond at the diamond mine a few years ago and that's what we do with it too.

Nope, they are not precious gems but one that is special, unique, or rare, may have retail value to collectors. But to go along with what Rainbow Island posted; mainly, you can show them and tell great adventure stories of how you "been there done that". Which is the best place to hunt? It's kinda like going to the grocery store; I may like this one but you may like that one. The main thing is to get outside and have fun!

If you follow the first two links and look at their inventory of crystals for sale, you'll get a good idea of the relative value. Other than monetary, the value is as trophies of the experience of finding them, even when they are purchased.

They make nice door stops too.

The most fun at the diamond mine is watching people. Once when I was there a tourist family came in. They had been driving, saw the sign, and decided to check it out. When they came the lady of the family was dressed in white tennies, socks, shorts, and blouse. When they left she was blue-gray all over!!! But they had a ball and were happy and that's what it's all about.
