Default would i like Fayetteville?

i am scouting for possible areas to relocate to when i am done with grad school. fayetteville unified pays well and someone told me it is a great city. i am jewish and despite not very religious, i like having somewhat of a jewish community if not, just a jewish style deli is fine ;D. i like greenery, bike riding, and hiking. i also like cafes, music, used clothing and book stores, etc. how do people there respond well to those from california? the mentality i encountered with people in other areas (not in arkansas though) was the "keep californians out of our state!".

If you want to move to AR there wouldn't be a better place for you than Fayetteville. As for the Jewish community, I do know they have a temple and some activities connected with the university. My granddaughter, who has a Jewish father considered converting while she was at the University, she did meet with the rabi but changed her mind. As for a Jewish Deli, I wouldn't count on finding one, not compared to California, After we left So Ca, many years ago we had trouble finding one even in NO VA on the DC border. Once you are accustom to good Jewish Delis like NY and Ca others are hard to find.

Most of what else you are looking for does exist, but remember it is still a small town compared to most of California. It is liberal and certainly more diverse than most of AR.

Yes - you'll like the trails within Fayetteville for bicycling and the areas within the region for hiking. Fayetteville has a nice variety of cafés and a decent music scene. But no Jewish deli - heck, I don't think we even have a 'real' deli at all in Fayetteville?

Fayetteville's a college town, it's hilly, green, etc. A Jewish Deli would be nice. I used to eat at a Jewish deli in Dallas that was run & owned by Koreans.

too funny, Jewish deli run by Koreans. We ate at really good one in Richardson, I don't know who ran it.

thanks guys! in september i am going on a roadtrip for 2 weeks and i am going to try to see if i can arrange to spend some time in fayetteville even though i think its out of the way from where we are going. i have just been looking into cities and towns that seem to be places i could afford and like, and fayetteville seems to be up there with austin,tx. boulder and tucson were also possibilities but based on cost of living and salary, werent as good "deals" as austin and fayetteville.

Here's what I told someone else about the Jewish community in Northwest Arkansas a while back: http://www.city-data.com/forum/3906522-post4.html

You'll probably get some of that, but nearly everyone in NWA is from someplace else. And the from the rest of your description it sounds like you and Fayetteville would get along fine. It's still pretty small compared with the other places you're looking at, though, even with all the growth the past few decades.

I think Fayetteville will offer you everything you're looking for other than a Jewish deli. However with the amount of people moving here I'm sure it's just a matter of time before someone notices it's missing (eventhough I'm still waiting on a decent Indian restaurant as well ). Like others have said, cities like Austin are much, much larger so it's just going to be a matter of deciding how much variety you'd be willing to give up with living in Fayetteville.
