I agree with your assessment about Fayetteville in many ways, I just question the phasing...
As for seniors, yes, there are lots of great things about many part of NWA including Fayetteville, but I do think many of us have found other areas that meet our needs more. The college sceen can be great, but after a certain age it looses some of its glitter.
I agree with DC people don't always see the whole picture in Benton County. It is a lot more than Wal-Mart that is for certain.

Yes, a lot of the exponential growth in the area was tied to the growth of Wal-Mart, and Wal-Mart is an important part of the community. But I think people who've just moved to the area, or who have never lived in Benton County don't see the whole picture, or jump to conclusions and credit or blame Wal-Mart for certain aspects of the communities without really understanding the big picture.

Ask a person on Monday morning who lives in Rogers or Bentonville what they did on the weekend and you always hear ... 'we went to Fayetteville'.

I prefer Fayetteville to Rogers or Bentonville. Went to last years Blues, Bikes and Barbecue and had a blast.
I've also lived in Ft. Lauderdale and there really isn't any comparison. They are not alike at all.

That's completely inaccurate. I haven't been to Fayetteville since before Christmas. And I know many others as well who don't trek down there on a weekly basis, or even on a monthly basis. You need to get over yourself.

It's fairly accurate ... at least amongst the white collar working professional crowd.

Oh, I guess I don't qualify????
I used to go to Fayetteville for the mall, but then Benton County got one. I used to go to Fayetteville for TJ Maxx, but then Benton County got one. I used to go to Fayetteville for Target, but then Benton County got one. I used to go to Fayetteville to eat out, but hey, Benton County has a few restaurants, too.
I love Fayetteville. I love the Mission District. I love some of the stores. I love going to the Razorback games. I love the Walton Arts Center. I love the Dickson Street bookstore, and Hugo's and ribs at the Penguin. I love the live music at George's. But Benton County has plenty of stuff to do. I see lots of that white collar working professional crowd at Eddie Haskell's on Friday nights, or in the bar at Bonefish Grill, or other numerous hangouts.
I'm not saying that people don't go to Fayetteville from Benton County, they certainly do. But we don't go every weekend, or even every other weekend.

I'm sorry, I think you misunderstood me. I lived in Florida in 1978, but I returned home to the North, not to Arkansas.
I have lived a couple times in Arkansas though, but in Eureka Springs, not Fayetteville. Son lives in Rogers though.

Have you ever driven on 540 during commuting hours? There are way more people commuting from Fayetteville to Benton county for work than there are people commuting from Benton county to Fayetteville. Of course Benton county is where a lot of the jobs are but why would those people put up with what can be a very long commute home? They put up with it because they would rather live in Fayetteville over Rogers or Bentonville. Some people "get" Fayetteville some people don't. There is nothing wrong with any of the towns just different strokes for different folks.
And you're right that Rogers recently has built a new mall and has a lot of restaurants with nice bars but at what cost? They have abandoned their downtown and built a boring suburban center in a pasture revolved around the car.

Isn't the new mall about progress and what people are looking for in some ways...???? That is one of the things I love about NWA, you can be in the woods and the middle of nature and 20 minutes later have all the amenities that others have in the city...
