Question Elkins Traffic and Commute Time

We are thinking of moving to Elkins and in some of the forums I have seen people mention that the commute into Fayetteville on Hwy 16 is "terrible". Well, "terrible" can mean different things to different people. For example, I am sure someone living in NY, LA, Chicago, Boston or any major congested city will think the drive is "wonderful" where someone who has lived in a small rural area will think any road with a stoplight is "terrible". So, to take the emotion out of my question, I would like to know from those of you who live in Elkins and commute into Fayetteville, Springdale, Rogers, etc. how many miles you have to drive and how long (on average) it takes you to get to work. As Joe Friday would say "just stick to the facts ma'am".

Anyone want to give me some details? Also, if you wouldn't mind saying where in general you live around Elkins (such and such a subdivision, a couple of miles north of Elkins), that would help to.

Thanks for the help

I don't live in or really go to Elkins very much but everyone that claims NWA traffic is terrible has never lived in a large city. There are plenty of bad drivers but not any bad traffic.

It's horrible on HWY 16 especially when school is in. It'll take you from 20-45 minutes to get to Fayetteville, God help you if there's an accident. In the mornings I basically sit or crawl at 5mph from the White River all the way to Crossover Road. The good thing about Elkins is there's no crime, none. The schools are excellent, and it's cooler in the summer than Fayetteville. People are a bit stuck up, and the city government small town politics is a joke. Don't speed.

I live out of state. I have looked on maps but I can't find the white river where it crosses 16. Can you give me a little more insight. I am looking at a place that is about 1/2 way between Fayetteville and Elkins but in the Elkins school district.

Look for Hwy 16 and Harris Community Road, or Hwy 16 and Mally Wagnon. On really bad days it backs up to Harris Community Road, typically it backs up to Mally Wagnon. The Hollybrook subdivision is right on the edge of Elkins, but has Fayetteville addresses and phones, there's another subdivision down Harris Community Road off Hwy 16 that's new. Stay away from Oakwoods or the subdivision by city hall.
