Keep those rediculous smog and saftey inspections in California! Kansas and Oklahoma also have no smog or safety inspections at all which is good. I like to modify my car and truck engines to make more power which would be difficult to do in California execpt for 1975 and older which are smog exempt there.

Now, ya see, right there is what happens when you don't have hillbillys around.

Out here, when we encounter one of those many I'm-goin'-east-you're-goin-west dirt road social events, somebody always says, "Yer truck don't sound good".

To which you reply, "I dunno".

Then he says, "If yer gonna be home, I'lll be over after supper to take a look".

You consent, and about 6:30, a hillbilly shows up with a tool box, truck parts, a can of beer in his hand, and another in the pocket of his overalls.

Now you know for *sure* somethin's gonna get done.

About 2 hours later, it's purring, and good for another 50,000 miles.

That's why *we* don't have emissions tests.

Sneezyone is on a distinguished road
It'll probably happen in W.Memphis before LR, it's worse there. Still the number of ozone exceedances has certainly grown in this area since 2005. It's not nearly as bad as Dallas tho; central AR is definitely not among the worst in the country. The EPA reduced the parts per million standard for ground level ozone in 2008 too so there will probably be even more dates this year. ADEQ - Air Div - Ozone - Exceedances of the 8-hour Standard I agree with strum in that it's not a matter of if but when. Too many polluting vehicles on the road. The smog checks, however costly, do improve air quality tho, no doubt about it. Los Angeles, while still bad, has better air quality than Pittsburgh and Dallas/Ft. Worth is quickly trying to overtake 'em all!

I understand you have few regulations and laws.
Someone mentioned you aren't required to have smog checks on your vehicles?
The air is clean and the water runs clear?
As Bill Clinton would have said; "Define regulations". We have about the same "regulations" as other states - there is no smog check - the air is clean except in Little Rock during the "dog days of summer" - the water runs clear in most of the small streams. Come on over. There is always room for one more family looking for "the good life".

So why are you here?

Because motor vehicles of today are engineered and built to be innately cleaner ... they are hundreds of percent cleaner than ones built 40 years ago.

So, if you know they are cleaner, and you know that the US is already one of the most heavily eco regulated cleanest countries in the world, why do they need a smog check in Arkansas?

Because there are tons of rednecks in Arkansas who drive old trucks with the mufflers dragging behind them.

Smog checks might not be neccesary, but inspections should be brought back.

No inspections should not be brought back, there are plenty of other states with inspections for anyone who likes them so much. I drive a 1979 Ford f250 and a 1978 Mercury Marquis, these old cars and trucks are still around cause they were built to last.
