Arkansas here we come!
Is Arkansas a good place for ex-Californians to settle down in?
I understand you have few regulations and laws.
Someone mentioned you aren't required to have smog checks on your vehicles?
The air is clean and the water runs clear?

Nevertheless, the air seems clean enough to me. Our low population density around here accounts for that most likely. By the way, nothing is as beautiful as a crystal clear mountain spring.

so far there are no smog checks, and yes the water and air are clean compared to most places.. Depending on where in AR you will be living, you may be surprised at how many are from California.. do you have jobs or are you retired? How about family? Just be prepared for a slower pace, but this doesn't mean the state is backward like many say. It is just a totally different culture than California.

The low population density/development is the main reason for the cleanness, as well as the wide swaths of land that have been set aside for public lands (a good thing).
As far as environmental regulation, AR is behind....e.g., few regulations of shale drilling in the ozarks has led to the degradation local landowners' land and polluting small mountain creeks.

Just remember why you are leaving CA (which is an absolutely glorious place from a natural standpoint) and don't start voting to make AR like CA.

Agree 110%. This is what most of us do not want, some progress is always good, but there is a reason we love it here compared to Calif.

Why is that a concern of your husband? I don't think you need a smog check on a diesel. When we got out of the pits of California you didn't need one then ,That was 3 years ago. But lets hope Arkansas doesn't start this B.S.
Things like smog checks and many others are the reason we moved out about one mouth after I retired.
When all the hard working California tax payers have moved out what will be left??
