Default Food/Weather in Bentonville

Hi All,

I will be moving soon to Bentonville (coming from massachusetts) and I have the following questions:

1) Does Bentonville have Mediterranean food (pita bread, hummus, Falafel, ..etc)?
2) Does Bentonville have snow in winter?

Thanks in advance for the help

We only lived in Rogers/Bentonville for 6 months, but I remember there being a greek restaraunt in Fayetville. As for snow....yes, there is snow. Not an incredible amount, but enough.

Welcome to Bentonville!

Let me assure you, there are about every kind of restaurant you can think of right here in NWA, especially in Fayetteville. Will it be as good or authentic as on the east coast? Maybe not, but you can still get your fix. It is like us trying to find decent Mexican food, no, it isn't as good as Tex Mex, NM or California but it satisfies us from time to time. If you are wanting to buy things like Pita bread, yes, you can do that as well.

We do get snow, a few inches and a few storms a year, but normally it is gone within 24 hours. It is just enough to feel like winter. What we do get from time to time is ice storms. They can last longer, still not like the north east.

I will add one more thing and this is not a negative, you are going to have a cultural shock as NWA is not the east by anymeans. This isn't bad or good, it is what you make it. If you spend your time comparing one place to another you may be very unhappy, if you look for all the differences and appreciate them, for what they are you will find lots of really great things about the "natural state"

You can't find good Mexican food in NW Arkansas? That surprises me. We've certainly got some good authentic places in LR. Just one of the things for which I'm appreciative of the immigrant population!

If you are looking to buy Mediterranean foods, while Wallmart etc has some stuff (good hummus especially), try the White Oaks gas stations in the area for true Mediterranean foods, ien the brands you can get in Europe.

Have you lived in So California, NM or spent much time in Mexico? No, you can get basic tacos, enchal, etc but authentic Mexican food? I doubt you get it in Little Rock either..I am not talking about chains reataurants, I am talking about good quality. I guess it depends on what one is accustom to? The closest would be Abuellos (spelling) which you probably have as well as we have here. Saying you get good Mexican food is like saying Subway makes a really good sub sandwhich or PF Changs has really awesome Chinese food. All of these places are good and worth a visit but not authentic at all.

Penguin, you know I usually do not like Hummus but what they have at Wal Mart actually is pretty good.

Nita, have you tried Glasgow's? It's near Rainbow curve in Bentonville, and it doesn't sound like it would be a Mexican cuisine, but that's what they've been serving for a good 30 years or more. Also, Maria's, Acambaro, and Las Palmas are all owned and operated by Hispanic immigrants. I don't know if they are all Mexican or from other Latin American countries, but the food is fairly authentic, imo.

will give them a try, well I take that back, we have done Maria's and were not impressed. We ate at Jose's last Sat, it wasn't bad but it wasn't good. I haven't heard of Acamaros or Glasgows. that is funny, Glasgows and it is Mexican food...

Again, so much depends on what one is used to. Even being run by Hispanics, they may gear their food more to the average person in this part of the country. of course with all the immegrants now here there should be a need for authentic food. One of the biggest problems we are finding, or two of the problems, the rice isn't very good and the sause is too bland. Again, this comes from living in So Ca, NM and Texas.

Baby, you need to ask them to ramp up the spice. Just like at Taste of Thai where you can pick your level of spice from 1-5, 5 being the spiciest. It's not the spiciest. I tell them more than 5, to get the heat and flavor I like. And you can tell them at Maria's or the other places to turn up the volume as well. But I agree, it depends, but generally the rice is lacking.

Yes, mnita, I have eaten Mexican food in Mexico, California, and Texas. And the places I am talking about are not chains, they are restaurants and shops which cater to the Mexican/Central American population in Southwest Little Rock and Levy.
