best route to Fayetteville from Branson
Hi guys!
I'll be in Springfield next week and have time for a one-day trip to Fayetteville to take photos to show my wife. Since time will be short, what is the quickest way to Fayetteville from Branson? I'm assuming it would be 65 south to 412 and then over, but sometimes maps don't always tell the whole story.
Thanks for your help!

I'd think your choices would be the 412 route or up to Spfld, catch I-44 back to Joplin and take 71/540 South to Fayetteville. 412 will be the prettier way, but don't follow 412 all the way back through Springdale to 540 to go South to Fayetteville. Turn south at the McDonalds with the plane, I think that's 264 and follow the back way into Fayetteville. Better traffic-wise and scenery-wise.

The shortest route may not be the fastest, but it should be reasonably safe. 65 S to 62W to 412W to Springdale/Siloam Springs. Then take I-71 into Fayetteville.
From 412 you can also take 45 into Fayetteville. This one is in the mountains! It is a gorgeous route but there is a caveat. Speed kills. The sharp hairpin curves are plainly marked. Some as slow as 5 mph. Don't try 10 mpn. Your wife will never see the pictures because you will not live to take them. I am not joking. Been on that road more than once!
These particular mountains are awesome in the spring when the Dogwoods Bloom It looks like the mountain tops are covered in snow. Unfortunately you can't stop. You need steady eye on the road and a passenger to take the pictures.
The safest route is 65N to I-44 W to I-71 S to Fayetteville. It is more mileage, but, it is all Interstate 4-lane highway whereas the other is two lane all the way to I-71. Time wise there is not a lot of difference. I think it was 3+ hours going the back roads from Branson to Fayetteville. I didn't think I would ever see civilization again. It is that isolated.
Enjoy the trip and look for the area where the make-for-tv movie "The Blue and The Gray" was shot at Fayetteville. Patrick Swayzee was one of the major characters. Don't forget UofA. The main building on campus has a lot of history connected to it.
If you are a Civil War buff you need to cone back. You don't have tine to see it all and take pictures. If you leave early enough, you should have time to shoot War Eagle Mill -near Rogers- on your way out. If it is getting dark, do yourself a favor and stay on the Interstate. It's safer at night.

Okay, thanks guys! I have to pick up a friend in Branson and that really means that it would be a bit of a problem going back up to 44 so I think I will follow 65 to 412.
