The recovery is moving right along. Many of the damaged homes are looking brand new, the really bad ones are being leveled and the lots sold. Builders are buying some of them with plans to build spec homes. The Middle school will not be re-built. They have broken ground on the new High School and in 2 years it is finished, then the current high school will be the middle school. Businesses have new signs and windows, restaurants are busy with all the construction personel in town. Mostly, everyone has a positive attitude about how the disaster brought out the goodness in the people of Polk County. I know I am proud to live here and be part of it. It is still very hard to find a roofing contractor who isn't backed up.

I will tell you this right now...
If they're really good, they're covered up.
I've dealt with that a lot, and have been glad to be "put on the list".
I deal with some good contracters, but they ain't there tomorrow when I call them today.

I live just outside of Mena and work there. The recovery is going well but the loss of trees is heartbreaking. I drive through the worst hit areas to get to my job and for the first couple of weeks it was hard to keep from crying at the damage and loss. It is cleaned up but so many places that made my drive a joy are gone....

When did the tornadoes hit? I hope that there was no loss in life.

It was in May I believe and yes, there were some, but not too many luckily. The town was devestated. (spelling)
I am sure someone will give you more details.
