That type of thing was a major factor in my deciding I couldn't live in "society" anymore. Not to say crime doesn't happen in the hills, but it is well known that by the time you go down to get your new drivers license, everybody knows everything about you, and unless you're a total mope, people will leave you alone.
If somebody misbehaves, everybody's going to know it.
Besides, everyone knows that the purple paint you see splashed on rocks and trees does not mean, "Hey....y'all just cross this here fence any ol' time ya feel like it, ya hear?".

Dawn, welcome to the neighborhood even though we're jealous because we can't retire to our land till I retire (just one day under 7 years now!) but always good to hear of good people moving there.
And RogMar, we know what you mean about the purple paint. We put ours on the trees the first year we had the land. Had to joke about it though, Walmart doesn't sell "posting purple" back here!!!!

I know, isn't that a trip?
It's actually lined out in AR regs what kind of paint, how big of a stripe, and how far apart.
I have seen no one that complies with the stripe size or distance apart, however, how bright could one be to think, "Well, gee, his stripes are too far apart, I think I'll just mosey in and look around".
That's not the healthiest move in the world.

Posted Purple, incase anyone doesn't know about it.
That paint is one of the things on my Christmas list, and barbed wire and fence posts. LOL
Greenacres,
Those 7 years will go by quickly. I can't believe we've been here for 9. 8 of those years were great, especially since we'd moved here after living in Cookeville. Gotta love when the problems from town infiltrate your little slice of rural heaven.
I was given a sign for the small chicken coop in our front yard. I think it says it all:
Before our firebug got fired up (pun intended), it was hood rat wannabe's that came through with their paint cans and tagged all the signs, mailboxes, shed walls...anything along the road side. They're lucky that they didn't get shot as everyone here is armed. We didn't get hit (we sit down off the road) and I suspect our big, red dog has alot to do with that. She's big and loud and most people are afraid of her.

If what I was recently told is true, you won't be laughing for long.
I have one mile of 4 strand barb wire up, with metal posts. My fencer used "Gaucho" barb wire which is thinner, therefore cheaper than a lot of it. A lot of folks have been using Gaucho for years.
I bought a 1/4 mile roll of it and a higher priced farm store (because both it and me were in the room at the same time) 1 1/2~2 years ago, and paid $35 and change.
A neighbor told me that he had just called around to buy Gaucho, and 1/4 mile reels were $125.
I knew fence posts had gone way up, but that's ridiculous, if true.
Alegedly it's because the current supply was made some time back when scrap metal prices exploded, and we'd have 2 mile lines at scrap yards.
BTW, 3 years ago, getting that fence put in cost me $1800. Materials and labor. I'd hate to think about it now.
As far as destruction, I've had my mailbox totally destroyed once, and the current one dented in pretty good. I'm 1/2 mile from my mail box.
We had two rashes of mailbox damge, and the sheriff's office then offered a $500 reward for information leading to the arrest of anybody conected.
Two weeks later they took 5 kids that lived in Calico Rock into custody.
That's 40 miles from me.
Somebody made some money.

Hi Dawn, you're right about the years flying. We bought our land 3 1/2 years ago and time has gone by pretty fast so far. Now if we could just figure out a way to get the next 7 years to fly by fast and then slow down after we retire, but that never seems to work!!
And we have a sign just like that!!!! Our land sits way back from the highway and we are happy to be way back. If we hit the lottery we'd buy even more land and be back even further!! Guess we're semi-hemits LOL!!!! We do like people but in small doses!!!

Greenacres,
I think we might be related!
Thanks Nan! I was wanting the one that reads "Nevermind the Dog, Beware of Owner" but haven't been able to find it locally.
