Hot Springs National Park has all the same, just with some still working younger folks added in- and no poa's!
We have nice "mountains" (not like Tahoe or anything!! lol) & beautiful lakes. Also, plenty of shopping & great places to eat. Our prices are a little higher :-(
"SamIAm" may be more on your mark, I have taken my son up to visit the Mountain View area & it is absolutely beautiful, just way to far from shopping for me! Good luck!
p.s. I just discovered this site today & I AM ADDICTED already!

Carmen,
I am going to move to HS after my house sells, hopefully this summer. I currently have t-mobil phone service. All I hear about is AT&T. Do you know if t-mobil has coverage there? Any other tips or certain areas to move in HS. I am a working mother with 2 young sons.
Thanks for any info!

Clarksville Area
If you like being close to 1,000's of acres of National Forest, yet close to a Premier Big Bass Fishing Lake, then Clarksville, AR. 72830 might be a good place to consider. We are a united Country. On I-40 about 70 miles east of the Oklahoma line. Pop 7,500.

AT&T & Alltel/Verizon are the main cellular providers. I don't know of anyone who has t-mobile, but also don't know if they have good/bad service here..??..
Regardless of cell service, you will love it here. It is a great place to raise children :-)

Late in the game here, I know, but thought I'd give my 2 cents...We've been studying the region for about 10 years with the idea of moving there when we retire in the next 3-4 years. We do tend to like the more 'planned communities' as we feel like there are a lot of amenities at good prices. That being said, our synopsis is as follows: (1) Cherokee Village -- nice community, nice lakes and golf; not much else to do. Does have a Walmart close. Didn't see much of anything else. Nice little airport and great prices for lakefront homes. Concerned about availability of medical and hospital care; (2) Hot Springs Village -- very nice community close to tons of stuff. Loved DeGray State Park south of HS for day trips, camping, etc. Pricing was a bit higher and I personally didn't like the --sorry-- junky stuff along the road on the drive from HSV to HS but the cost of amenities (golf, lake, etc) were priced well and I don't think you'd ever be bored there; (2) Fairfield Bay -- we like. Great views, great lake, great golf. Dry county. There is a grocery store close, but you'll drive at least to Clinton for all other shopping. Not a whole lot of new construction available, would probably have to custom build. They tell me $80-$100/ft.; (3) Bella Vista. Interesting there. When we first found it 4-5 years ago, we were convinced this was it. However, it was booming and after a couple of years we were priced out of the market, so we moved on to study other areas. They've really taken a hit with their real estate lately and now the prices have dropped a lot, putting it back into the running as a potential place for us. Tons of new construction available at a good price. Their HOA fees and amenity fees, marina fees, etc. are very reasonable compared to some of the other places we've checked out. Tons of stuff going on in the region. Great airport access (Northwest Regional in Bentonville, KC 2 or Tulsa 2 hours away) and actually good roads (not too curvey) in and out. Dry county, but MO state line is very close, which isn't dry; (4) Holiday Island (outside Eureka Springs) -- terrific little community, but I feel like the prices are high. Husband didn't like the golf course. Didn't care for the drive (too curvey from either direction -- from Branson or Bentonville -- to do on a regular basis). Like I said, we've concentrated more on the planned communities, altho any of them we've checked out have lots and land available that feel like country. Last spring we took the 'short cut' from Bella Vista to Branson, and have to say that was a nice drive and had some nice homes through that area. Hope this helps.

You can get alot of bang for your buck in CV right now. When you say, "not much else to do", you may want to check the city web site and look at the social and fraternal organizations there. To say that there's a plethora is an understatement.
As for not seeing much of anything else, you might have noticed that 62/412 is lined with businesses of every description, and within a shorth drive there's Hardy, Thayer, MO, Salem, Mountain Home, and much recreation throughout the area.

apology
My apologies -- not trying to offend anyone. We were there for a short period of time checking the area out and I'm sure we missed getting a comprehensive overview -- just working off of my impressions of the areas we've been to. CV is a beautiful area and certainly worthy of consideration if it affords the overall lifestyle one is looking for.

Hot Springs or Hot Springs Village would be great. There is lots to do, many bars that have good music, comunity plays, Horse Racing, Gambling, College, 3 live shows, wine tasting, lakes, close to Little Rock and homes are very affordable and taxes low.

T-Mobile has a deal with AT&T whereby T-Mobile customers have access (at no additional charge) to AT&T's service area. Go to the T-Mobile website, and you can see a service map that shows the entire service area. When I first moved to Central AR, I brought my T-Mobile service with me. Never had any problems.
Sprint uses this same arrangement.

No need to apologize, no offense taken. It's just that we who live in these areas are going to know more about them than a person that visits for a week or two.
I don't live in Cherokee Village, but I'm over there on a regular basis, I own a lot there, and that whole Ash flat/Highland/CV/Hardy area is my "stomping grounds".
That whole strip is referred to locally as "The four lane", and pretty much anything that one desires can be found on it.
Yes, CV is beautiful, and of the planned communities, you might be surprised at the amenities versus cost.

No offense taken here either. I thought you laid out your research very fairly on the areas you referenced.
Your concern about the lack of a convenient and nearby hospital/emergency room is an issue that is big on the minds of many people associated with Cherokee Village. In the meantime, Fulton County Hospital in Salem, which is about 25 miles away from CV town center, is quietly stepping up to the plate and improving that facility big time.
