Camden is hurting true enough but has seen some what of an alittle bit of an up turn. Magnolia and El Dorado has more things to do than Camden but the advantage about Magnolia over El Dorado or Camden is its location. 3 1/2hrs from Dallas 45 min from Texarkana (the largest and fastest growing city in southern Arkansas) Little Rock is 135 miles away and Shreveport is about 1 1/2 away but I wouldnt really go to Shreveport unless you like gambling and casinos. Hot Springs is about 90 minates away also.
but in all fairness houses are cheaper in Camden though

( just a side note) It sure is interesting reading about places in Arkansas besides NWA and Little Rock.
Being a Northener (Minnesota) I have checked out a few areas of the South and find it interesting ( and fascinating ) learning about other parts.

One can learn a lot by listening to both the pros and cons of a city or area.

Default Formerly from Camden

I am formerly from camden, born and raised there. I always said I would never leave but I did and I do miss it. I am sure each town has it's share of problems but I have had my wild days and now am raising children of my own. I believe the drug problem has gotten way out of hand , you have first time offenders that are capable of rehabilitation being sent to prison for longer periods of time that the habitual offenders that got them on the drug to begin with. Unless the time comes that every one has to face the the same punishment for the same crime no matter how much money they or their families have, who their families are , who they talk on, I feel the problem will only increase. You have some that swore to Uphold the law and protect the citizens actually protecting the criminal . I hate to say this even though I got away from there (and that is what made me grow up and change) I still have family and friends there and wish things were different.

Actually I just visited the Camden area last week. I am looking at a piece of property on White Oak laKe which is about 20 or so miles from there.

The only thing holding me back from going ahead and buying that property is the downturn in the Real estate market which is effecting our selling our home here in MS. If I knew our home here would sell, it would not be a problem and I would buy and move as soon as I could. I love the area and my only drawbacks are the lack of good shopping and Doctors without driving quite a ways.

Someone mentioned the crime, but actually there are very few places now where drugs are not causing a crime problem. Even in rural areas they are starting to see more of it as the drug culture seems to keep growing.

My husband just got offered a job in Camden. I was born and raised in a small town then moved to the city and have become quite spoiled so I have mixed feelings about moving there. What is it like? Are people friendly? Is the crime rate high? What about apartments? What are some nice neighborhoods to live in?
