U.S. Marshal's Museum-Fort Smith
Does anyone know when the U.S. Marshal's Museum in Fort Smith is suppose to open? Combine that with the Cowboy Museum in Oklahoma City for a weekend of Americana....

I agree.
I can't wait to see the Cowboy Musuem for the first time. The suspense is hard to bare.
I have the whole family going for a whole weekend.

It is going to be a long, long time. I am talking like 10-15 years. They have to raise a substantial sum of money before they break ground. The only material thing they have right now is a plot of land with a sign on it.

Depending on the status of the national fund raising campaign, officials have set the fall of 2008 as a potential date for ground breaking, with tentative opening in 2011.

Well you must be talking about Oklahoma. There has been no groundbreaking in Fort Smith.

The plans are in place, the property is ready, and the people are ready. It is the fundraising campaign that will keep it on hold for so long.
We have a good bunch of people working on it, but it will take a while to raise the money. We have to raise $30-$50 million before we can build this museum. With this economy, think about how long that will take.

I have never been a big fan of the museum. I just don't believe that it will bring that many people here to fort smith. I would rather they build a super mall, aquarium or something that would have a lot broader support.
