Default Stuttgart

Stuttgart is a dying town, no two ways about it. My husband grew up there and any time he has to go back he just gets depressed about what is happening there. I don't think you would want to move your family there.

Have you tried the Google maps street view thingy? It's great! In case you don't know how:

Google Maps

Put in Monticello, Arkansas in the search box, then grab the little man in the top left, drag him down to the map on the main road, and go from there. You can just "drive" around! You can also put in the address of any house you're thinking of buying, and look around the neighborhood.

Luvvarkansas, I did drive around in Monticello and some in Star City, that is a great feature that I had heard of, but didn't know where it was until you mentioned it the other day. Thank you GlendaRN for the warning about Stuttgart. The only information I have is what is online and dying towns break my heart. (I've watched a lot of the small towns in NC fall apart). Would your or your husband recommend another town other than Star City or Monticello? (My husband will be working in the southeast area of the state: south of West Memphis, sort of from Pine Bluff all the way to the river and all the way south. Thanks!

Avoid anything in the delta. Not only are the towns dead (there isn't anyone around to pronounce them dead), the skeeters are HORRIBLE in the summer. I grew up in Dermott and we used to ride our bicycles behind the truck that sprayed insecticide. That was the only place at night without bugs.

Two weeks after high school graduation, I enrolled at the University of Arkansas - Monticello and it was the best thing I ever did. My wife (who I met at UAM) discussed it and it is the only town in SE Ark that we would move back to. I still have a lot of close friends and some family that still live in Monticello.

Thank you Robert_J...I am really getting the feeling from everyone that Monticello is where we will want to be. I suppose living near a university with the boll weevil as its mascot is only appropriate since my husband and I met in grad school for entomology...if any of your friends know of a place that is for sale with a little bit of land, please let us know! We are hoping for a little bit of space when we move!!

I've been reprimanded for recommending a builder so I have to suggest that you look online for real estate agents and give them a call. If you really want country living then outside of town is just fine. You can go as far east as Collins. That's the community on the hill overlooking the delta. That's where the mosquitos stop.

I should have posted this earlier -

Robert_J, thank you for the mosquito info...I have had enough of them and would like to stay out of the worst of them. I would consider a builder in a few years, but we have 2 small children and we have to be moved in in 6 weeks, so I doubt that is the way to go for now! Thank you for your help, I'm going to watch the video after I post this.

Here you go....it's pretty countryside out on the Old Warren Road:

Real Estate Property in Wilmar AR 71675 | Homes.com

Seriously, that may not be what you want at all, but I wanted to tell you that I only found 4 listings when I used Realtor.com, so I just did a Google search on "home for sale monticello arkansas" and came up with much more, such as the site the one above is on. Good luck!
