Dear Job Search,
Bentonville, Rogers, Springdale, Fayetteville, Bella Vista are all within 30 minutes of each other depending on which area you are trying to get to. There are several small museums in the area but the two I am most excited about are the Walton Arts Center Welcome to Walton Arts Center and Crystal Bridges Crystal Bridges - Museum of American Art - Bentonville, Arkansas There are fine dining oppotunities in Rogers, the Promenade Mall at The Pinnacle, and Pinnacle Hills as well as the Scottsdale Center off Walton in Rogers. As well as Fayetteville on Dixon St and the surroundinga area. Several movie theaters, numerous golf courses and clubs, college sports, minor league sports , lakes large and small, athletic clubs, libraries, there are several websites you can visit, my website has lots of information on it about all of northwest Arkansas. I hope I at least started you in the right direction, feel free to contact me with any questions. Deborah |

There are several smaller, history-oriented museums in Northwest Arkansas and a major art museum being built in Bentonville by Alice Walton. There are a few small galleries in the area, but as of today, to spend the day at the museum gazing at masterpieces, you can travel to Tulsa (two hours) or Kansas City (almost three hours) or to Little Rock, Dallas or St Louis. The Walton Arts Center in Fayetteville attracts Broadway tours and other nationally known acts including opera and ballet. Fayetteville also has several other venues, including the University, that attracts bigger names. There are several concert series in the area as well as in Fort Smith, and many of the clubs/restaurants offer live entertainment with local performers, many of whom are quite good. Eureka Springs has a blues festival and a jazz festival (separate events) that attract some major talents, and they also have an opera season. Bentonville and Bella Vista have summer programs of music performances in the public parks that are fun and free. Nightlife in Northwest Arkansas is thriving, and you can find most anything from out and out sleazy to fairly high-brow. As for restaurants, there is a pretty good range, most of the chain restaurants like Chili's and Olive Garden have moved in, and there are some excellent local restaurants. For "fine dining" I might recommend James at the Mill, it's wonderful but expensive. If you are interested in sports at all, of course there are the Razorbacks (go Pigs!), and Springdale is building the new stadium for the Arkansas Naturals baseball team, Bentonville is negotiating for a woman's professional basketball team, and Friday night football will be starting up in a week or so.

Bentonville has grown considerably since I lived there, too crowded for me now. My family is still there. My brother in law was a cop there for many years. Great place to live, it is all like one big city, bentonville, Rogers, Springdale, Fayetteville and all the little towns around there is on the verge of becoming a metropolis. Lot different than when I first went there in 1975! Still a good place though and lots of good shopping and good resturants.

My family is also moving to nwa from New Jersey (we are from TX and can't wait to be in the south again!) and would love some help. We went looking for houses and concentrated in Rogers-found a house, but was on the east side of 540 and the neighborhood seems to be at a stand still. My husband is already working there and still on the house hunt. Can anyone give us specific neighborhoods with good schools? We would like a neighborhood that is pretty close to being done. We have a 2nd grader and a 8th grader. We like Lochmoor Club, but our realtor is keeping us away - says the builder went bankrupt and the roads have already needed to be repaired? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I'd venture to say that there's not a new neighborhood in NWA where a builder hasn't gone bankrupt. There's that much housing here and generally builders overbuilt a few years back and many are still sitting on inventory. I live in Lochmoor and have been here almost a year. Great neighborhood. Tons of kids and a real sense of "neighborhood." Other builders have purchased the sites here and homes are continuing to be built every day and sell everyday. Three new families in the last two weeks here. The Roads? Your realtor needs to do some homework. We're still in Bentonville and they're still maintained by the city. He/She must be confused with the St. Vallery Downs neighborhood across the street to the south, which technically is Cave Springs. A gated high-dollar area, they had some terrible soil issues and the streets went unrepaired until this past summer. Our streets are fine. PM me and I'll give some low down and a site where you can find out more about Lochmoor. |

Interesting that your realtor is keeping you away from Lochmoor. Many builders in NWA built way above their means and greed took over thus bankruptcy. We handled a builder who was bankrupted to the tune of 23 million. If you are careful and have a heads up person working for you , you can use this as an advantage as there are some very good buys out there. Good luck art |

Art, Thanks for the reply! I didn't mean to say that Jersey was bad, it's just not home. We live in the southern part of the state Swedesboro/Woolwich area - about 30 min. from Philly. We never knew NJ could be so green! Lots of farms in our area, beautiful to drive around here. (Especially in the fall)We have enjoyed living here and visiting Philly - my kids swear they can recite the Liberty Bell Story! New York and D.C. We are ready to move back south - that's where our families are, but we will miss it here.
