Default Are we still hiring ESL teachers?

As an education major (Middle Level Grades 4-8) I know that hiring freezes are all over the place. I'm finishing my Student Teaching soon and will enter the Master of English-ESL emphasis program at my school, which will give me a masters degree and an ESL endorsement.

Do we still need that here anywhere in the state? It's a couple of years away, but I was just wondering. I like to know what I'm getting into ahead of time. And I know the job market may change quite a bit for teachers in 2 years, but I'm fully intent on being an ESL teacher, not in the regular classroom. As a 25 year old guy I'm just not getting the charge out of it like I get when working with english language learners.

I should know more about the ESL job situation, but strangely our Education department doesn't even act like TESL exists. It's only really a talking point in a "Diversity in the Classroom" class and that's it. I had to go through the English department to even find out about our degree.

What school do you go to?

I would think that ESL would be big in NWA.

Arkansas Tech....not the biggest in the state but I've liked the school and staff, and it's given me a pretty decent education so far.

Yes, ESL teachers are in demand. But it depends on the school. High demand in some. No open jobs in others.
