Ohhhh, hippie lingo. I get it. Not to be rude, but some of you folk need to study up on the difference between AR and AK.
the AR/AK thing is a common error we see everyday. Often it is just a typo.

The "R" and the "K" on a keyboard are too far apart to be what I consider a typo, Using AK. in place of AR. is simply not knowing the state abbreviations very well, also a very common minor error that we see often. We all know what the OP meant. One thing I do want to add is that the art scene is divided every where by social class. The crunchy low income hippyish artsy bohemian types tend towards craft shows, street fairs, coffee house gallery combos and Saturday markets, while the gallery art walks generally have wealthier, older and most decidedly non crunchy types.

I guess I should have said easy to confuse, not really a typo. I know I did it once!!!!

You also might want to visit Fayetteville...I think you would love it there.

Fayetteville does have a lot of what the Op is looking for, but I think the Springs areas are a little better fit. Fayetteville is so much a college town even though it is pretty diverse..

This is the first time I've ever seen 'crunchy' used in a way other than, uh, food. Congratulations on that.
Anyway, there's some of that kind of thing in Hot Springs, but the town has a lot of plain people as well. It's always struck me as being redneck more than anything.
Eureka Springs is the only part of Arkansas I can think of that would be along those lines in any great capacity, but it's terribly touristy.
Also, Hillcrest in Little Rock has something of an artsy feel, as well as pockets of downtown.

--bohemian--

My,my, how the meaning of words have changed.

When I was younger, there were people who actually were Bohemian in nationality and took a lot of grief over it.

( many people degraded them by calling them " stupid Bohunks"

Nice to see they are going up the social ladder by being referred to as---" artsy bohemian"

Maybe someday the ethnic people who were referred to as " darn micks" or " stupid Pollaks " will be called---"artsy "--also.

Cool Where are my bongos Daddy-O, cough cough, what is this schwag ?

The hippies have in a way hijacked the term "Bohemian" just like they hijacked the two finger "V for victory" sign, now folks call it the peace sign. Here is an old photo of some popular early hipsters in a Gypsy tent during the transition period of the old Bohemians lifestyle that eventually became the model for the new hippy bohemian lifestyle. I don't have a photo of "Maynard G. Krebs" yet ! Dobie Gillis may have ended up a member of "The Bohemian Club"
Google up "The Bohemian Club ! Whoo hooo !

Arty will be found more in Downtown Little Rock, the City of Fayetteville or Eureka Springs, AR!! If you search AK your gonna be way off =) Common mistake. Google those places. Eureka Springs has a ton of info on the net and if you go to each individual city Chamber of Commerce they will send you relocation packets.
