Smile Paper mills/Yellville

Can anyone tell me where the paper mills are located in Arkansas. My husband and I want to retire near Marion County. We just love the area and the people, but if there is a mill there I need to be far from it.

I would visit my family in Florida and the paper mill smell made me so sick, I ended up with violent migrane headaches the whole time.

Also can anyone tell me the pro's and con's about Yellville. My husband thinks this is as close to heaven as he can get. I like it too, but Flippin has a Wal-mart!

There's one in Pine Bluff - which is south of Little Rock....I don't believe there are any mills anywhere around Yellville. That's the only one I can think of, although I think someone mentioned one in far eastern AR not too long ago. At any rate, if you've been to Yellville and never smelled a mill, then I wouldn't be too concerned. Those things run all the time and I'm sure you would have noticed it - it's not something you forget very quickly...

Hi Sam I Am,
Thanks so much for that information. We love it up there and I was so worried that we wouldn't be able to relocate. We found the people there to be some of the nicest we have ever met. I'm new to this so I hope I replied correctly. Thanks again!

There aren't any paper mills near Yellville but beware of poulty farms. They are thick in the Ozarks and though the smell doesn't seem to carry or linger as far as as a paper mill, if you are close to it you're in for a very unpleasant "neighbor"; to me the smell is worse than paper mills. I had a friend once near Berryville who had built his dream home only to have a poultry farm move next to him. His groundwater was eventually ruined and of course the smell was horrendous. Good luck.

I can reply to this one, worked in southern arkansas with a company who manufactured and serviced emissions monitoring systems for papermills and such.the entire time I worked for them had bad sinus problems so can feel for you. i now live in central arkansas, about 100 miles from the nearest paper mill and if the wind is right that SKANK smell is in the air. very hot in arkansas, very humid, lots of sex offenders and drug addicts.cheap to live here but so are the wages, its not all bad though the fishing is good all year
and the winters are very mild my favorite time.

My god - this is a thread about PAPER MILLS AROUND MARION COUNTY...."lots of sex offenders and drug addicts"? Where do you hang at? Isn't that a pretty broad generalization? I'm sure the people in other areas will be relieved to know they are in a safer area...yep, we import the perverts and dopers just to populate the state....good grief...

I went to the college in Mt. Home, not too far from Yellville and you will love it, and no paper mills around! Also, I do not believe the chicken farms that are present in Northwest AR spill over anywhere close to Yellville. It is beautiful.
