Ouachita National Forest but I don't remember which county - This is an Indian "pit quarry" quarried into the side of a mountain. Much of the "banks" behind and on each side is quarry debris that was left over from the good tool material they kept. We found pits, trenches, outcrops, and even hammering on large boulders that had good tool material.

The debris is also scattered down the side of he mountain in front of me.

Clark County, Graysonia mill site - In the 1920s this was the lumber yard for the planer. It is now a beaver pond. Too shallow for fish. Too bad

That shot looks like it could have been taken today, overcast winter day. Well, we did get a little sun, right at the end of the day in Hot Springs.

Thanks again, for sharing all the interesting pics and commentary.

Shawmut, Pike County - These are the piers for the railroad water tank from the old steam engine days. I'm not sure when the steam was replaced but maybe around 1950. The railroad along here is on a high bank above the Antoine River and below these piers is the pump house with the water intake pipe from the river.

I grew up in a railroad town in the late 50’s and all of the 60’s. I don’t remember any steam engines, but I do remember a lot of new diesel/electric engines. We had a round-house and it was the crew change depot. ( I remember when they first started hauling new autos and trucks on open haulers. When they would stop and change crews, we would climb on and look at the new stuff. Big deal, back in the day.)

Go back to Page 108 Post 1079, and Page 109 Post 1087 and take a look at those Photos and read about them. My archeologist buddy came by today and loaded some more LIDAR maps into my computer and later was to meet a group of people at that cemetery to make plans to clean it off. He promised to send me photos when they get it cleared. If he does I'll post them here. He will also file an archeological site report on it.

Oh how I miss Hot Springs. It was our introduction to Arkansas in the fall of 2015. Even that photo of the jug filling station is enough to send me longing......especially in the midst of a brutal winter up here. Thanks again, Fossil.

Oh, btw, looks like someone brought back an old thread (Honest opinions about living in Hot Springs) to ask about you from when you were ArkansasSlim.
