Yep Rogmar. I felt like I was living out the old Charlie Daniels song 'Uneasy Rider'." Next time I think I'll re route my trip. I'm going to LA via Omaha."
I didn't even realize I had made a mistake. There was no screeching of brakes, no near miss. The guy was frantically motioning me to roll down my window. I ignored him and drove on. That's what really set him off. You people can try being reasonable with crazed rednecks if you'd like. I'll just drive on and laugh. Good luck living in Blytheville.

Heh.....
It's worked out for me for quite awhile now.
Can't blame ya though. One is always going to be held by perceptions that they could not, or haven't had the chance to, change.
Road rage happens in AR the same as it does in other states, but I've never judged a whole area by it. Just a small-minded individual that acted in an unwarranted manner.
Hasn't ever made a bump in my world, though. Sorry it did in yours.

Oh I wouldn't call it a bump. Kind of funny when I look back on it. I'm sure there are some fine people in Blytheville. You know what they say about first impressions though. I've heard a lot about a Q joint in B'ville called the Dixie Pig.
I thought that one day I might take the trouble of finding the place and seeing if it lived up to its reputation. After my encounter with old Green Teeth however, I think I'll just wait till I get to Marion and have a Tops BBQ pork sandwich. Always good, never threatening.

Never had a problem in Marion or any other place on that route. Say hello to Green Teeth for me.

OK fair enough. My drive by impression of Blytheville is that it is a pretty dreary place to live. I see that the population is now listed at around 16,000.It wasn't that long ago that it was 27,000. I'm sure the closing of the base had a lot to do with that. If you are not moving to B'ville because of a job,I just don't see much reason to move there. The schools are not first rate, the shopping isn't that good, it is not a very attractive place, and there aren't many cultural amenities. The Blytheville Chickasaws haven't won a state title in anything in many years, and some of the natives appear to have anger management issues. Other than that, I'm sure its a swell place to live. Good luck.

I visited Blytheville in the mid 90s. The tension (racial? or not) was so thick you could cut it with a knife...could've just been the heat. I didn't feel comfortable there at all. The people I knew that worked at a steel plant there mostly lived in Dyersburg, TN or in the bootheal of MO and commuted. If you like lakes, try southwest Missouri/Springfield.

Good CHEERS from Blytheville
Good News, Blytheville is a city filled to the brim with wonderful people. I have been here for 6 months; I currently work at Aviation Repair Technologies. This company has leased out the majority of the buildings on the air base and has hired over 50 people from the area. This is a growing company bringing much investment into the community, not only thru money, and jobs, but also changing the way people view the area. This town lost its why, to live over 18 years ago. Most turned to drinking and drugs, not petty theft. This business along with other startups are changing the face of Mississippi County. This city of 18000 has a small town feel. If you visit the local hang outs you can see all your friends from town. It has the only major shopping stores between St. Louis and Memphis. Some businesses to look for are: Walmart, JCPenny, Lowes, Ultimate Fittness, GameStop, Acapulco, and Waffle Inn. The cost of living is low and jobs are plentiful if you are looking and ambitious. It has two steel mills and a third being built. Many people still live in the past and focus on all the negative of Blytheville. If you are seriously interested in this area do some research that is not byassed. Make a determination off solid info and not 50 naysayers. We the people of Blytheville stand up against this 18 year old curse.
