Utilities Cost - Trying to get a range on "average" utilities bill for electric service heating and air conditioning per 1,000 square feet of under-roof living space.

Any Recommendations ...

(1) Electric
(2) Heat-Pump
(3) Natural Gas
(4) Propane

What city are you referring to, as it varies. Here in BV our normal bills run about $120-$175 in the summer for our heat pump. We don't have natural gas. I say the normal bill: that would be highest in Feb (reflecting Jan) with Dec, Mar and maybe April lower. In the summer our highes bill is usually about $150 when we use the air almost 24 hours a day. Spring and fall we stay around $70 to $100. Our propane which we use just for the fireplace is about $150 to fill 2 tanks which is all we use from winter to winter. Oh, if you noticed I said normally, our last bill which included the 0 to 5 degree temps we had last month was over $250.00. We have about 1750 sq ft. and there are 2 of us.

My last bill was ridiculous too. Almost $200 for a 1200 square foot house.

My normal electric bill with all electric was around $100 in Van Buren.

wonder if we qualify for low income help, we will be low income at this rate....

Of course, this week they are predicting another storm from Ca (it is already in Ca or has moved out) so we can look forward to more snow and temps in the single digits. At least the weather guy yesterday said, this could be about the end of it as El Nino or La Nina whichever it is, has about done its thing for the year...and me, I believe them cause I want to!!!!

...

Thank you for the comment on electric bill(s) for Hot Springs, Arkansas. We are looking at property in Hot Springs Village and trying to get a sense of average monthly utilities (electric) costs for West Central, Arkansas. Since we are out of the area, we have no reference point.

Also, we own property in SW MO and can build there or buy in HSV area. SW MO is electric only, but a little bit colder, so more expensive to heat, approximately $600-700 for 3,000 sq. feet last month. Yikes!

We're looking at about 3,000 sq. feet on one floor. Have checked with local HSV resident about last months electric bill, and was told it was $227 all electric; keeping the heat at about 68 degrees. No too bad compared to SW MO.

Oh...actually that was an electric bill in Van Buren, AR. I just moved to Hot Springs two weeks ago. I guess I should have mentioned that. I will let you know what my first electric bill is here in Hot Springs in a few weeks.

Default $465 electric bill

My last bill was $465 for a 2100 st ft house. We keep the heat at 68. This is our first winter here and see that the house is badly insulated and is freezing all the time. We had to get several space heaters and they are running a lot as well as the heat in the house running constantly trying to stay at 68. There is only 2 of us and we barely use any electric on anything else. We're worried what the next bill will be. We won't be here (this house) next winter.

Is this for me? Yes, we have regular electric central heating. They added some rooms to the house and apparently the ducts weren't done correctly (we were told) so the heat runs and runs and the house stays cold. It of course helps and would be much worse if it didn't run constantly. We are renting and will be gone before next winter.
