Hi there,
Arkansas is a beautiful site. And I don't blame you for wanting the country life. And wish you luck. I don't know a thing about Yellville, but here in Fort Smith, I have never seen it a problem, personally. I have lived in and around this town all my life. I did however spend the summer in Louisana in the 70's and what a shock it was to know that racism was so bad there.
However, Hope you follow your heart & move to Arkansas. Personally, I can't wait to move from here to the Ozark mountains to country life (in Franklin County). And if you ever go through there you will be amazed. Peaceful, quiet, and all the people I have ran into are quiet friendly.

I am not racist either, but I am one of those people who are more comfortable around their own race, I do not treat other races bad, and respect them as they respect me.
What I really don't like is when people want to take Christ out of Christmas, and start changing they way things have been years ago!!!! I have no problem with people celebrating their own heritage, but please don't change the good things that we have in our heritage.
It really rips my heart out, when they want to call it a Holiday tree and not a Christmas tree, I for one plan on keeping the heritage I was brought up with, and will pass it down to my child and grandchildren. I believe in Christ, and if some people don't, that is their way of life, I don't push it on them, I don't go to church every Sunday, but I still believe.

Wanna make sure I have a fair chance of that before I take further steps.
Any info welcome.
I have lived in Mountain Home for over 3 years and though it is a beautiful place I would not move here if I was of any ethnic origin, I have found this to be a very racist, repressed, Bible belt mentality. I wish I had known that before my husband and I moved here. I'm from California, a liberal, and used to an ethnic mix, unless you find a church(Baptist of course!) immediately, have a job, and are very low key I don't think you would be happy here. I was shocked at the level of racism, lack of awareness, and no people of color. My husband and I will move back towards the west coast but have found this a very boring, depressing, place that functions like we are still in the 1950's and who wants to go back there!

However, if people with a more interesting ethnic heritage, or love of cultural diversity, don't move here, it sure won't get any better. We miss ethnic diversity on a lot of levels here. A good neighbor is a treasure as far as we're concerned; cultural clones aren't a requirement. Today's demographics don't have to be tomorrow's demographics?

There are a lot of places in Arkansas where music is part of the lifestyle. (Although I haven't heard any Mariachi or Salsa since I've been here if you're craving a Latin based music scene; not to say there isn't such a place in Arkansas). "Music" might be a starting criteria for finding a good place to live. Northwest Arkansas puts you closer to Springfield and Tulsa for shopping, health care, airport access, etc.

http://www.****** is a fun site and it's free.
Thanks for your blog! I felt I had to respond and put out my opionion of Baxter County, I have been shocked at the level of bigotry, lack of any cultural diversity, and frankly it scares me that the headquarters of the KKK is less than a hour away! I am a CA liberal and proud of it, my husband and I can't wait to move to a more liberal and culturally diverse state, I just don't want to see anyone go through what we have, though we are white(whatever that means) it feels like the 1950's (horrible) I miss color and fun, and unless you are a church person 24/7 you will be miserable here! I have already received some flack for my comments but I don't care, as many of my friends from other places say, I am not going to be dishonest!

I really do love it here and this is my sweet home Amigo :-). BTW since you're a musician you might find a work in the local Latico restaurants etc. Viva el vino viva la musica y viva la mujer LOL.
That's because you are living in Fayetville! Which I hear is a great city with alot of the Southern good stuff and not the close minded small town stuff.

Suzzeque........................You obviously are not very social nor friendly. I see you fitting right back in California. Your statements are VERY overly exaggerated and hopefully you do get to move. I hopefully won't come across you, cause you are obviously very depressed. I can almost guarantee anyone coming here and go up to 100 people and just say hello......you'll get a very warm hello back from atleast 95 of them and they won't ask what church you go to. I bet in California that number would be somewhere around 40. Please go home !!

I agree, I put a post on, but it was removed for trying to stand up for myself and others. Why hers and the one from the Carolinas wasn't removed for attacking me, for my beliefs, I do not know.
I guess it is because I am white and not purple. Anyway, I agree with your post, and I am only here to get help and answers, so that being said, I wil wait for some nice replies, Thank you.

Default Nice Place!

My wife's family is from Siloam Springs and that seems to be a nice place. Nice mix of a few different colors. I have not detected any racism within the community. They actually housed a bunch of the Katrina refugees at a church campground near the outskirts of town. Didn't seem to think that gesture showed any sign of racism or prejudice towards those folks (white or african-american).

I am from a much larger city in Texas where the folks are not always as nice but in general, I would say that people can be ugly to one another no matter what state it's in.
