Fayetteville, AR sales taxes--9.25%. Add an additional 2% if you eat out or stay at a hotel/motel.

Here's a link to the city taxes break down.

thanks for the info, I don't think people realize some of the taxes that exist. When I was still working for a major hotel chain resv service I can remember the shock people making reservations had when we repeated the tax rate and his was many years ago..Example: Grapeview Texas, combination of all taxes for a hotel room, 14%. Every time we stay at a hotel or motor inn anymore we know the added taxes will be 10 to 15% at least..

As for the person who said the tax on a drink was 27%, I think, for whatever reason the gratuity was added as well, that would make it closer to the 27%...

I worked at a restaurant in Fayetteville and saw this tax everyday, and had obnoxious out-of-towners complaining about it. Maybe the restaurant I worked for was just gouging people (which would not surprise me) but it was pretty epic. And UA kids would be drinking on Dickson if the tax was 50%, they wouldn't care.

and I have been to many restaurants and bars in Fayetteville, no, the tax isn't 27.5%...btw, if that restaurant was charging anything like that, they are breaking the law, I am sure you would have realized it...As for the kids, some yes, but the majority of them would find another place to drink...

I'm with nita on this one. I've been back in Fayetteville since 1980. Never have I seen a "27%" tax on drinks.

What the restaurant may have done is charge automatic gratuity of 18%. I've seen some restaurants charge do the automatic grat on groups as small as 6 people.

Another thought, back in the day, restaurants and clubs had to be "private" in order to sell alcohol. Patrons would have to pay an extra $5 or $10 for a "membership." Let's see, then there's a corkage fee if you're having wine.

If you think this is bad, just wait until they calculate the various carbon taxes! Woot!
