So the tax rate 9.25% here in Washington County, but recently I went to a fast food restaurant and calculated the tax on my bill to 10.7%. Isnt this illegal? If so, what actions could I take to insure that this establishment does not get away with this?

Go to the restaurant and show them the bill. Have them explain why the tax was charged. It could be a tax you don't know about or a city tax. If they then can't explain it, but refuse to return the fee, call the county sheriff to file a complaint and get advice.
You can call another establishment and see what tax rate they charge,
Or don't go there anymore.

There's also what is called the entertainment or "hamburger" tax, which is an added on tax in most of the county. Also some of the cities have a bit higher taxes too.

Just wait til you go to a restaurant or bar and order an alcoholic drink. The tax on those was, last time I checked, about 27%.

no it isn't. I have had many drinks in Washington county and the tax isn't anwhere near 27%. I don't know what you looking at..if that was the case you wouldn't see the kids at UA drinking every weekend at the bars on Dickson street.

i think it is an extra dining tax of some kind. You should get an explanation if you really want the straight answer..Our granddaughter that works in Wash county and went to UA is always bitching about the high taxes in the county...

I think that would be very confusing.

There are four different taxes. You have the state tax which is 6%, then you have Washington county tax, then you have the city tax, which is different depending on the city, and then you have the "hamburger tax". In Fayetteville I think that is about 10.2% total for all taxes when eating at a resturaunt...not including alcohol, which I believe is higher.
