New Zealanders visiting AR
hi my friend and i are going to b travelling by road from Phoenix to Florida and will be touring part of the state. We are plutonic, non married blond caucasion male 21 and african-new zealander female 21, i am just concerned about how that would be received in AR, in fact we are quite worried due to stories and tv etc weve heard/watched. Just like some honest opinions on local attitudes to bi-racial opposite sex new zealand friends please and if we'd have a hard time or be welcomed, thanks. Andre and Jazmine

Andre and Jazmine -
Please - do not worry. I think people will be so charmed by your accent they won't notice anything else about you. We look forward to having you here - don't believe everything you hear.
Any particular place you are touring that we could help you with info on?

Bro, that's old school. Enjoy. Quit watching to much TV. Everyone will think first, that you are a wealthy young couple. If you play South African you will get invited to speak... You are gonna find trashy people who mind your business all over the world. In the US the law is generally enforced and people don't typically like to be labeled racist. With your fashionable accents you are more likely to be a commodity in the South. To miss a place because of the few is really sad, you miss alot of good in between. Just pass yourselves as a wealthy South African magazine publishers trekkiing the states. No joke, Arkansas is a lovely place. Be careful everywhere, not being from anyplace puts you in a cautious mode. I am certain that there are places in NZ and AU where i would get mugged, the same is true here.

You have posted this same question on the City-Data forum sites for Arkansas, Texas, Tennessee, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Georgia, and I'm sure you've upset a few people by suggesting that their beloved state is still in the dark ages of racial hatred. I noticed that you left out Arizona, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Florida. Why the distinction? After all, they have people in them, too. The South has it history, but its people are civilized. And I suggest that if you are so worried about being ill met all the way to Florida, you should just take a plane. With the zig-zag route you "plan", it would probably prove cheaper anyway.

Yes, now I'm in Michigan. I found your posts because I am interested in Tennessee, and read up on it daily. and since I just recently moved from Arkansas, and before that, Texas, I check those forums too. I couldn't help but notice you posted to all these, so I kept looking.

Im not sure what shows you have been watching but it is pretty much all fantasy. Yes, it use to be like that here, but it was also like that many other places. You can find stupid people anywhere, not just the south.
